The battle of the Bulge though huge in scope (the largest US involved land battle of the second world war) was generally a series of small unit engagements fought over road junctions, bridges, tactically significant treelines or the warmth of a cluster of farm houses. Following the initial penetration by the German forces most of the combat involved company sized elements or smaller with a wide mix of branches, rear eschelon troops and mixed units. The Northwest in Winter is not unlike Northern Europe and the perfect setting for this event. Hopefully not as cold!!!!! I can assure anyone interested in coming that Battlesim events will not dissapoint even the most discriminating airsofter. It won't be perfect but it'll combine hollywood effects, actual vehicles and crew served weapons, Schmittys fine custom weapons my Garands, a dedicated and well impressioned Kampfgruppen and other WW2 weapons, role playing cadre members, historical accuracy and lots of exciting airsoft. Reserve your slot right away. We're going to need all the US troops we can muster to form whatever stop gap group we can throw at the BULGE. Last years Bulge

looks like we'll have some folks attend from all over which will be great. Thus far England seems to be a most distant participant. I spoke with the military vehicle club and they are excited about the event and will be providing a number of period appropriate and functional vehicles and equipment.

Hey 2nd bat, what do you mean when you say "my garands" have you found a way to make them work in cold weather or are they different some how.
I missed another scenario like this last year and almost cried, this sounds great and I would love to join in!
Thanks

I will have about a half dozen to rent out along with three spare magazines for 45.00 to use at the event. I'll even apply that rental toward a purchase should you decide to buy a gun or kit. It's a nice way to decide if you like it and if it's worth the cost. Like any AEG they work fine in the cold weather or hot weather come to think of it! My current versions are extremely robust and make great rental guns since much of the hardware is real steel and wood. dissasembly and repairs are straight forward and simple. (I haven't had any go down as yet however!)

It's great hearing from all the people who are working on their "Improvised winter" impressions for this event. Wool trench coats, Mackinaw jackets, wool sweaters and of course boots wrapped in wool banket strips using other sections of blanket as a shawl. Gloves and assorted hoods are a great look. Sections of sheets and even table clothes as makeshift winter white camo are quite authentic and if we get snow functional as well!
The Germans also showed alot of interesting variations in the Ardennes offensive with innovations and adaptations learned on the Eastern front. It'll be cool seeing what folks come up with.

Though still a few months away anyone interested should get registered so unit assignments can be sorted out and if you're travelling to the event from out of town arrangements can be made. Finally if you'll need to have uniform items or gun rentals it's very much a first come, first serve arrangement. Contact battlesim.com and go to the Long Winter banner to get more details and enroll.
Three of my Garand AEGs are already spoken for and I don't frankly know how many more I'll have finished and available by then. I sold three finished guns last week but will be sure to have on hand any that folks have comitted to using.
The event is growing quickly and will be an awesome weekend.

Another Question is would gas guns work in the cold? I am either buying a gas .45 or .38.

Yes, its going to be to cold for gas, unless you want to fill the whole mag for one shot.

Most electric pistols are worthless, the marui AEP's are nice, but they don't make a 1911.

I'd go with a spring gun, they work every time, no batteries or gas.

the marui AEP's are nice, but they don't make a 1911. Actually they do, but its more of a modern version, and not the WWII Type.

That's the sh!tty EBB. Marui AEP's are actually worth something, but they only make glocks and M9's.

It would be great if it ended up snowing at about that level and depth. No way of course to insure it but you're right it definitely gave it that Ardennes kinda look. I can't wait!

Looks like this event could easily have 50 plus participants. based on the trend in impressions with each event they just keep getting better. I got a sneak preview on the medic rules and love what ranger Warren and Hlemutt are cooking up and of course the flow lines for the battle action is awesome as usual. It really pays off to have keen historians cooperating with actual Infantry trained controllers create and help run the event.
If there's any way anyone else from out of town can swing attending this event you won't be dissapointed. Dress warm and dry however! Actual military tentage is provided and some field meals through the course of the event. There will be an abundance of M1 garand AEGs, the new MP-40s and of course the bolt action rifle springer contest!
Did I mention the tank and armor?
