Ft Campbell Week of Eagles coming up soon.
Gentlemen,
The Museum and Living History Volunteers will have more exposure and
involvement in the official Week of the Eagles Program than ever before.
This is what it looks like so far.
Groups may begin arriving on Thursday for Set-up. People may camp in
display areas or use a WWII two barracks building with showers.
Participants may eat at the dining facilities, and we may try to make
arrangements to have authentic chow delivery to the display areas so
everyone bring a mess kit.
Although Friday attendance is not mandatory, we will make this time
available for school and military groups to come. We will also enlarge our
Vietnam area this year and have many 105 boxes on hand for temporary
bunkers. Our M151 Jeep has been painted dark Vietnam OD. If there are any
local volunteers good at doings starts and markings before WOE, let me know.
Super Saturday will feature an air show including the Army Aviation Heritage
group that will do the full Vietnam assault show, with hueys, cobras,
Mohawk, etc. We will be supporting them with soldiers to represent both
U.S. and Vietnamese. Anyone who knows any Good VC/NVA type group please let
them know. There will also be many modern USAF aircraft on display.
This year there will also be a WWII battle demo in conjunction with the air
show, with an approximate hour Showtime. We are still looking for WWII
planes that can interact with ground forces. We will try to bring the "Band
of brothers" Tiger and U.S. Armor.
We also want to sponsor a military vehicle show, and offer the participants
a chance to have a convoy road march through the most picturesque and
historical areas of the post and training area. One convoy that will be
exclusive WWII U.S.vehicles will transport all of the WWII reenactors on a
full immersion tactical road march which will be attacked at an unknown
location by German forces, and become a non-visitor battle reenactment.
This event should be completed by Sunday noon to allow ample time for return
home.
There will be other attractions going on all day Saturday, to include
concerts, equipment displays, etc culminating in a fireworks show. It will
also be a chance to meet many former 101st Veterans. If there is enough
interest we try to have 40's type dance event on post, or group dinner at
the German themed Sportsman Lodge with all you can eat Schnitzel.
Please put the word out to all of your WWII and Vietnam reenactors friends
about this event so we can have maximum participation. Feel free to forward
this email to any interested groups and organizations. If we make this a
success he can expect the WWII battle display to become a permanent fixture
at future Weeks of the Eagle.
Thanks again for all of your past support, and hope to see you all here for
WOE.
My unit is going to be there, and thought maybe some of yall would like to know about it.
