I figured some of you guys would just rather read the AAR on here. this is a basic how it went with extra details on missions here. www.scenarioairsoft.com/ww2/articles/aar/broadsword/broadswordaar.htm
Well another WW2 scenario is in the bag. Broadsword while fictional was based loosely on the Hurtgen Forest area and battle. We had right at 60 participants including TBJ members. I have to say the impressions that a lot of the guys brought were very good. We still had room for those guys that were just getting started and only had minimum kit as well.
This was where I spent a lot of the time out their unfortunately. I got to play a little and help set up and use my nifty new field phones. I hate this part of organizing and running events but it has to be done and it was my turn on the team to do it. It is an amazing amount of stress herding everyone into briefings getting them registered and making sure field fees are collected accurately. You also feel supremely responsible for all the logistics of getting props and people to the field and making sure everyone has a good time in a safe manner. I tend to get a little grumpy when juggling all that and that was even with the great help I got from TBJ team members with writing the missions, making maps, building props, and on field reffing. I can't thank these guys enough and I am sorry if I offended any one of you guys with my jackassery! I'd like to thank the players that came out and made it a great game as well. You guys rock. I heard very little of anyone not calling hits or general unsportsmanlike like conduct and it was nice.We had people from as far away as Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida make the drive. Team Black Company always help an event with their great teamwork and excellent uniforms. Team Nasty from Alabama and Florida came on over and helped put on a good show as well. The Allies had some topnotch tough cookies also with Team Llama and the guys from Phantom Brigade. We had great sponsors like warhelmets.com, Lenlock Hobbies, Georgia Airsoft and of course Absolute Paintball with their wonderful field in Dalton, GA. I look forward to seeing all you guys again in February of 08 for our next WW2 event based on the Battle of the Bulge that will be held at Athens Paintball in Athens GA.
The Germans had a lot more people in full out or close to full out impressions overall. While the Allied side did have many good efforts and some 100% repro impressions. It was good to see so many take the WW2 airsofting impressions up just that extra notch.
These Allied fellows are a great example of guys trying WW2 airsofting for the first time. They came stripped down from the tac gear with some OD BDU's it wasn't perfect but it was cheap for them and they looked pretty good from 10-15 feet. Those OD uniforms will serve them in many time periods and games in the region as well from WW2 to Modern to Vietnam scenarios. I think they had a great time and will be back for our next WW2 event and most likely add to their kits a little more. That's what we strive for, start slow and add to your kit as you go along. It is a model that has been working well for us the last couple of years. I would have liked to have seen more M1 helmets on people, as we had several to loan out.
Allied players
Axis Players
A new idea we tried with this game was partisans. We got the idea from the guys over at the UK WW2 airsofting sites. It worked great for the guys that wanted to try something a little different and those that just had no money for a Allied or Axis impression as most if not all the uniform was most likely sitting in their closet already. Rules for the event were set that the Axis could detain, question, and search partisans, but could not fire on them if they did not have a weapon. This allowed the partisans to gather intel for the allies harass the Axis players via hit and run ambushes and act like drunks just to confuse the Germans. The players that came as partisans did a wonderful job at playing and acting and added another facet to the game.

We had quite a few great props at this one including a Nebelwurfer prop built by Savoy6. Period correct working German field phones, and an Airsharp .30. We had a mine field layed out with 20 mines that fired off a very loud percussion cap when you tripped them. The Nebelwurfer was static but really lent itself to the game as it had to be moved into position and a field phone wire had to be set up and kept operational the entire time. There was a lot of effort put in by a lot of people both players and behind the scenes staff and I think it showed in the caliber of event we had.

Conclusion:
In the end the Germans were barely able to squeak out a victory. It was very hard fought by the Allies. This was the first major scenario where the Allies where not outnumbered. It was great to see the Allied side grow. We had about 74 people register and 60 show so not very bad attrition. We had a great game and I think it went off without to many problems I hope everyone had a good time. If anyone can see where I made a mistake in the AAR or left something out please email me and let me know and I can fix it. Thanks again to everyone. Look for another game in Feb. 08 Watch on the Rhine.
