convert to what? Garand? A socom seems like it would be harder to convert and than a regular m14 model unless you wanted a tanker garand (please dont say you want a tanker garand). My Garand uses the agm m14 as a base gun, and the conversion came out beautifully.

No i do not want a tanker lol, it just looked more similar to a garand and thought it would need less work, but the AGM is a great price for me.

The AGM MP008 is in my opinion the best base rifle for the conversion and I have prettty much done them all. You definitely DO NOT want the SOCOM version. The needed Garand parts have been frustratingly hard to come by lately however. And you'll have to do quite a bit of subtle conversion and tweaking of the parts to get them to work.
Good luck!

try pm'ing 2nd bat or mabye airbornenoncom (he has a home made conversion in the works). I cant really give you every technical part but its essentially the upper wood handgaurd, stock ferule (sling mount ferule is optional, harder to do but looks great) and the forward gas assembly, and forward hand gaurd. you'll have to trim down the front of the lower stock (m14 stock) and do some other tweaking to get the peices to fit correctly. Once everythings in place, just put the parts on in order and fit them onto the m14 stock/barrel. 2nd bat keeps the forward gas assembly attatched by a dowel and electrical tape system which isnt exactly the best way to do the job. I found using a small set screw that taps through the gas assembly and sits in a small recess on the barrel works much better and wont budge unless you intend to destroy your gun. Then do some extra trimwork and finishing to the stock (varies upon what color the wood hardware is) and you'll end up with a good looking garand. Theres more to it than that but that should give a brief summary of how the conversions are done.
