Hi, I am still very new to this forum and don't quite know it's layout, if this is the wrong forum I apologize. I am just looking for opinions and answers.
First of all, So I have this sweet M1 Garand. How many shots are expected to be gotten out of green gas before the bolt breaks? I did some work on the gun, what I think would prevent the bolt from breaking and I have fired 3 cans of 134a and 200-250 rounds on hfc22 and the bolt shows no signs of wear except for on the finish from rubbing against the receiver. So I am just wondering if my modifications actually did anything.
Also I don't suppose you guys would let me call my Garand an M1D would you? I'll have an S&K mount, an up-to-date scope and the sweet T37 flash hider. Maybe Leather cheek rest but I don't know if I want to spend money on something I can't use since I'm a lefty. I will get pictures if requested and asap. but I am just wondering.
Lastly. Should I or should I not convert my Garand to use an external line with regulated CO2 at about 90-100PSI
I have 8clips on a sling I turned into a bandoleer so my clips are easy to access and now if i can make it so I can use one 9oz tank to fire all of my rounds that'd be sweet.

but I like my S&K mount and walmart "Powerline" scope. I don't want to spend 125 on a mount and 650 on a scope. ha ha.
So you're saying that My Garand can not be an honorary M1D?

I'm not sure anyone is in a position to say you can or can't.
My opinion is that a sniper weapons and airsoft is a comical anachronism but if you want to do one up for visual effect you won't be the first. Like you I couldn't justify the expense of the actual scope mount and scope so did up what I thought was a reasonable facsimile. The muzzle cone flash suppressor was expensive enough! (M1C) I haven't yet seen actual convincing evidence that the M1C or D actually saw service during WW2 although the M1C was reflected in 1945 Tables of Equipment replacing the 1903A4 sniper rifle.
I've built and sold a couple of them as custom, custom AEG Garands. The folks seem happy enough with them. As a lefty, the rifle really isn't well set up for you with the scope offset the other way and the cheek pad designed for right handers. I posted pictures of my M1Cs somewhere in an earlier post.

yeah I understand that "sniper" and airsoft makes me laugh... you're more like recon. if you want to be an airsoft "sniper" I'd say get a good radio over getting a huge arse rifle. And trying to "snipe" with a gas gun also. but I just want to feel B/A and isn't that what airsoft is 1/3rd about? the other parts are safety and fun. ha ha. though safety is above those but you know what I mean. Well I figure that the stock will act as my cheek rest. ha ha. you know? I had a marushin 98k with an offset scope and that actually wasn't that bad at all.
Well the beauty of my scope mount is it will still allow iron sights. I'd use the scope more for a closer look if anything. I would try to sight it in as best i can at 150 feet for example and the iron sights at say 80 feet.
Also it seems like a fun thing to try and do. I have only read that the M1D and C were released late in 44. And not in large number. but were used more in Korea and yeah.
All I know is that it's fun to shoot. and if I get an external line... though I've also read that it works on 50-60 psi..... If I get that going I'll start low. ha ha. not as many bad things can happen if it's to low compared to too high. ha ha
