I think what a lot of reenactors don't recognize about vehecile owners is that not all of them want to be reenactors. When vehecile owners come, its for their veheciles. Many think they're too "lazy" to have a decent impression, but I dont think somebody who puts countless effort into their vehecile(s) just plain ol' decides to crap out on an impression.

Well there Impressions aren't that bad the thing is why would you make a video showing it off. I'll disagree about some of the impressions but going through the effort of making a video about it is a little unnesecary in my eyes. Things like constructive criticism are miles better.

Incidently here is the Jeep (One of two the fellow restored) You can enjoy them online but he never drives them anywhere. members.aol.com/darryld/wwii-jeep/index.htmAt 6'4" he is hard pressed to come up with a reasonable impression but he does have a nice set of HBT coveralls and some boondocker type boots as well as nice wool Jeep hat.

Touche! Looks like a lot of smiling faces having a great time to me. But obviously lots and lots to make fun of for the silly ponys of the world. It is apparently a very tall horse.

Ok so we all get the point I think, Be nice and help people get into the hobby. Time and a little motivation makes the best impressions. The only place we can roast people is the stich nazi thread. Nice of you Dru to reveal the farb ghosts in your past Ive got some really bad ones from when I was 15 -Gordak

Don't we all! I think this little bloodletting was healthy. We all have pictures that cause us to grimace! Somewhere there are folks taking great pains to make fun of us. It's their loss as they aren't having the fun we are!!!!

As P51 says unless we're 18 to 24, skinny as a rail, and willing to spend thousands on a uniform and kit... Sounds like me. Yeah, enjoy it while you can. That was me, too, when I got into this. I was 18 when I got into WW2 re-enacting, I weighed about 140 at the time (at 6 feet tall) and looked like I was about 16. Other guys in my unit envied me for being able to find almost anything to fit. Those days are long behind me now. I still have my original AAF fighter-bomber pilot impression in my aviator's bag in the closet (I was smart and bought stuff in large sizes so it still fits) but I don't wear it anymore because I'm too old and getting a little too heavy to look the part like I used to. That's one of the reasons I got into the War Correspondent thing. It's an impression that I can use regardless of age. I plan to stay in shape, but many correspondents were older and much larger than I am now. It's something I can grow old in the hobby with and not have to act like a "hard charger" later on if I don't want to. The notion that reenacting is done to honor the vets is 90% BS stated mostly by people who simply like to play dress up. I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with that but be honest about the motivation. AMEN to that! I've been saying that for years, but most people in the re-enacting community will never hear the message. I have always said that an event closed to the public honors nobody but the people taking part. But many re-enactors have a huge issue with that. They have to attach lofty titles and explanations to what they do. I like to dress up in WW2 stuff and "play war" from time to time. It's the same general reason why I put on more modern stuff and go to airsoft events. Beats me why others can't be so honest with themselves. My public display events are done partially to educate people but mostly to justify to myself a large collection of WW2 stuff I have and showing it off to people. I have no issues with that point. Beats me why others do. As P51 says unless we're 18 to 24, skinny as a rail, and willing to spend thousands on a uniform and kit only to sleep in it outside for three weeks at a time for events that are seldom held, our impressions are going to fall short of the perfection true reenactors strive for. Well, that's not really what I said or meant. I was just making a point for glass houses and throwing rocks, really. In the end, you could find something wrong on ANYONE if you looked long enough so none of us really has the right to throw very large rocks. What makes a farb, to most folks, is someone who really doesn't even try. Show me someone who does the best they can with what's available (or even went full tilt with good intentions but had some bad information), and I'd say that few would have anything to say. I usually avoid throwing rocks because I have a glass house just like the rest of us, in that regard. THAT was my point, and nothing else.

I Like to Dress Up and Play army, thats a big plus for reenacting, but when you see a tear fall from a vet's eye, Or when your in the middle of chatting with a vet and he's in the middle of his stories about the war, and your getting called to go participate in a public battle but you hesistate to go and stay to listen, and the vet tells you to go on and get on with the rest of the squad cause they need you, you know your doing something right. -Nick

When you first start reenacting you might not notice why guys always say "they do it for the vets" I know i didnt, but its when you start talking to people who lived and had family overseas, or when you talk to someone who was in the war, and they thank you for what you do, and tell you how great it is guys like you are around to show people about this stuff, i know thats mainly when it hit me, how many people appreciate it.

I'm in the farb montage, yay! Thanks farbmaster Jay(I.P. Address Screwed the poochie on that one!)!
I honestly don't understand how anyone takes anything set to "Dueling Banjos" seriously... ;D
All in all, I think this was taken way to seriously. Yeah the video may be silly, and a little distasteful, but it's nothing to be up in arms about, IMHO. I'm sure if you looked you could find something offensive in a lot of things, day time TV?

LOL. I didn't have a problem with the silly video. Since 99.8% of all airsoft video's are silly so I'm used to seeing that. I took offense to the people that took offense to the silly video. Well, not really, but it sounded good didn't it. We all are into this hobby for various reasons. As long as everyone is having a good time without having it at somebody elses expense, then the hobby will grow.

Farbmasters pics arnt too bad. Yeah there is some incorrect clothing, but most of that is with people that probably dont spend all their time doing WWII airsoft. The incorrect boots are easily fixed, but understandable for a little while. (Hey there are some airsoft groups that allow E. German boot! Oh Nooooooooooooo!!! ;D Those are pretty darn close to use for a bit, just upgrade eventually.) I would rather see a modern ATV like the one shown then see no vehicles. There is some stuff there that I wouldnt agree with at all, using a modern gun as WWII, and having long hair/germans with mustaches... beards.... could be fixed way to easily to justify having it on the field. That cardboard assault gun is weird, but it does resemble a german tank so although not for reenacting, I wouldnt mind seeing one at an airsoft event too much if it ment there would be no vehicles without it. My problem with the vid is that it made a point of making fun of large people, as well as a woman. Why cant they play? I wouldnt expect ANYBODY to lose 100 pounds just to play airsoft WWII style, and I wouldnt expect women to get surgery just to play as well. Make fun of the people who knowingly do things that could be changed in 2 seconds, not those who are really trying, or those who dont fit the WWII soldier body shape/gender catagory.
I do definitly agree that V1 launcher is rediculous! It would look better if you welded a few lengths of metal together in 5 minutes then use a tractor!
