Mediterraneo was a good war related movie.
Battleground did a pretty fair job with the Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of Britain was very well done, I thought.
There's an English movie from the '50's that I saw as a kid about the Battle of Britain that I'd live to find. I think the title was "Angels One Five"
An underappreciated Vietnam movie, starring Burt Lancaster: "Go tell the Spartans"
"Zulu Dawn" is a well done movie about the Battle of Isandhlwana, which preceded Rourke's Drift ("Zulu") You can find the whole movie on YouTube.

There is really good Chinese movie which translates to "Assembly". It covers the Chinese civil war through the Korean war. It's about a survivor of a Red Company who seeks to have his men remembered for their sacrifices. I highly recomend it and it has no political overtones at all. A true story and fantastic even with just subtitles. The action is on par with SPR. It's cool to see how they used just about every small arm left over from WW2 in that brutal civil war. Two thumbs up from me!

M*A*S*H was a movie before it became a TV series . Really? Never knew that. Not the same actors right? Kids these days. No the movie did not have the same actor, it had Elliott Gould, Donald Sutherland and Robert Duvall, directed by Robert Altman. Tho I loved the series and it's one of my favorites, the movie is tones of times better

I liked the Bridge over the River Kwai alot. I know it wasn't really accurate to the real story but it had great performances and a nice plot. I also enjoyed Attack, not very well known but good acting. I like First Blood a lot, though I don't know if you'd call it a War movie.

Just happened to think of a British mini-series that was shown on Masterpiece Theater back about 1990, "Piece of Cake", about an RAF fighter squadron from the beginning of the war to the end of the Battle of Britain. Caused a bit of a stir in Britain because it depicted the characters as real people with their own quirks and failings, rather than the perfect heroes of (selective) memory. As I recall, the author of the book that the series was made from defended his work as having been based on real incidents.

I did enjoy both Lost Battalion, and The Crossing very much. But for me, the most finely wrought war movie ever made is Master and Commander, the Far side of the World.
Other favorites are:
Downfall Cross of Iron Die Brucke Empire of the Sun (not quite a war movie, but i loved it) Letter from Iwo Jima Glory
