Hi guys,
I would like to share my review of this rifle with you.I am based in the U.K.
I purchased my M2 carbine (export version ) 8mm from Elite Shooting Centre, owned and run by Mike Cripps a true gentleman if ever there was one.
My initial impression on handling the rifle for the first time was.... a very good looking replica , if a little light in weight. However it is quite easy to ADD weight to a weapon, but much harder to Remove it, so no problem there.
Into a cool workshop on a cool October day (12 degrees c ), load up , gas up (green gas ,as it is the Export model ), select full auto and pull the trigger.... bbbrrrpp. A satisfying 4 shot burst, a little high above the bullseye. Select semi-auto, pull the trigger... bbrrrrrpp another full auto burst. And again .. bbbrrrppp full auto..OH DEAR.
No matter what I did with the selector it would only fire on full auto.
A phone call to Mike Cripps and he was as always most apologetic and helpfull. He assured me that he had tested the rifle before despatch and all was functioning correctly, but he asked me to ship it back to him for appraisal/repair and at his expense. This I did and the rifle was returned to me within about 8 days, repaired and working correctly. Mike explained that the Quality Control at Marushin was not as it should be. A few of the screws/ pins etc. had not been tightened correctly causing my problem.
Now I could test the rifle properly. Function on semi and full auto was fine. Accuracy at 7 metres ( indoor workshop, cool 11 degrees) was very poor.
I was getting 6"-8" groups with both .34g and .45g bb`s
Over the next few days I tried different gases and bb weights, but could not improve on the accuracy, as for outdoors trying to hit a coke can at 10 meteres.... maybe one hit in 10 rounds. Most of my airsoft pistols will hit 9 or 10 times at the same range.!!!!
A day or so later I was looking down the muzzle of the carbine and noticed a red cooured blob in the upper bore about 1" from the muzzle. When I prodded it with a small screwdriver it apeared to be a blob of rubber. Could this be the cause of the inaccuracy.?? I had to investigate.
So with the aid of the exploded view in the manual I stripped out the inner barrel. Now I know what `Ld2 barrel system` means . Marushin fit this rifle with TWO hop units. The usual adjustable hop at the breach and a second FIXED hop about 1" from the muzzle. On inspecting the fit of a bb in the bore it is obvious that the bb is quite a loose fit ( as it is with all airsoft guns). Now if the bb flies down the bore nice and central when it hits the second hop rubber it will probably fly straight and true... However if the bb rotates slightly to one side or the other when it hits the second hop rubber it will fly off to that side, resulting inwide groups. EURIKA.!!!!
I slid the second hop rubber off the barrel turned it inside out, so that the dimple was on the outside, then I slipped it onto a peice of steel rod, popped it ito the vice and ground off the dimple with a Dremel sanding tool. Turned the rubber outside in and slid it back onto the muzzle, re-assembled the carbine and re tested for accuracy...... WOW what a difference 1" to 1 1/2"" inch groups. Outside at 10 metres and wham bam 10 out of 10 hits on the coke can. Also with thehop adjusted correctly the bb`s fly straight for a good 30 metres before slowly dropping to the ground. All this is outside at 10-12 degrees c in a UK autumn. I can`t wait for warmer weather. Velocity wise with .34g bb`s and green gas I get average shots at 260-270 fps. Should be good for 300 plus in the summer. I am now very happy with the the M2 carbine. I f you purchase one you may be well advised to remove the woodwork and inspect all screws/ pins / clips etc. for security and loctite where necessary.
My utmost thanks to Mike Cripps at `ELITE SHOOTING CENTRE`, Burnley for his excellent after sales service.
I may add to this review as time goes on.
