We are announcing a time and place for the next WW2AA - MOA event first. The rest will fall into place as the event time approaches. All WW2 impressions are welcome. Show up with period guns however. Only Gryphon or myself will be able to excuse participants from that requirement and expect it to be a high hurdle to overcome. Partisans/Civilian impressions must be convincing. Address - 829 Forest Lane Pickerel, WI 54465 Date - Friday, 15 August (arrival after 1:00 pm) This is the set-up for camping date. Saturday, 16 August is the main battle date. Start time 9:00 am. Chrono and safety brief starts at 8:00 am. The address shown is the camp area only. Firing is allowed at target range. The battles will take place about a five minute drive from there at other land (70-acres) that are laced with roads and abut a private lake. They are also hilly and wooded. Perfect PB territory. That's it for now. Mark your calendars. If you know you are coming let me know by PM so I can start a running tally. This helps in crafting the scenarios. This event will have at least four premieres. Honest! Once again, bio bb's only. Modified 8/10/08 - Here are the scenarios for Baltic Summer. Scenarios will follow weapon chrono and safety briefing at 8am on 08/16. Players will then embark for the playing field located on property at Crawford Lake.
First Scenario - Encirclement in Latvia, 1944.
It's August, 1944 and Russian reserves assigned to the 3rd Baltic Front are pushing thru the Mavlenburg Line into Latvia. Elements of the 198th Russian Rifle Division with motorized support (1 Tank, 1 Armored Car) are pushing down roads in woods outside Riga to the coast in order to encircle parts of Army Group North. In this first skirmish, German defenders face supply limitations. They do, however, have anti-tank capability and should be fielding two hand held anti-tank weapons along with an anti-tank gun.
Airsoft Rules for this skirmish: 1) Random respawn rules will be in effect. Additionally, when respawning a five minute wait at the respawn point is to be adhered to. I plan to allow the attackers more respawns each scenario. NEW NEW NEW --- Here is how it will work. There will be a 33% chance for a respawn. There will be red chips and white chips in a bucket. Reach in and choose a white chip (you won't be able to see the color as you are supposed to reach in with the bucket over head) and you get to respawn. Choose a red chip and you die. That means for the rest of the scenario. If you are the first dead on your team you become the referee to ensure that future picks from the bucket are done fairly. If you choose white and get to keep playing, remove two red chips and your white chip and place it in the discard bucket. If you chose a red chip and are dead, just throw your red chip back in the bucket since the ratios won't be affected. It will be a lucky team that actually uses all it's respawns. 2) Ammo limits - Germans only - rifles limited to 60 rounds - semi-auto weaponry (rifles) 80 rounds - Mp-40's, Mp-41's, Mp41®'s will be limited to 4 magazines. Sadly I don't think any crew MGs will make the event but if they do, they get one magazine or 300 rounds. Pistols can have one magazine. 3) To avoid arguments there will be no scavenging of ammo from any player, friendly or otherwise. 4) Each side will post a sign away from the objective area. In this scenario, the objective area represents Riga and the German resupply line and will be a sandbag emplacement. Each side's Command Post will represent their respawn point. 5) This will be a two hour scenario. The goal for the Russians will be to capture the German resupply point (sandbag emplacement) or annihilate the German defenders. After 1 hour, German resupply will automatically occur. A whistle blast will allow the Germans to load up their magazines. 6) No vehicle respawn.
1100 hrs - lunch in the field.
1200 hrs - Second Scenario - Summer, 1941 - Push to Leningrad.
It's July, 1941. Rocked by German advances, elements of the Russian 198th Motorized Division have hastily constructed a defensive position atop a wooded hill. Busy buttressing their position, they are spotted by German reconnaisance. Next, elements of the German 3rd Motorized Division (29th Regiment) are tasked with their destruction. The Russians in this scenario will have a 45mm anti-tank gun as their only defence against the German vehicular probe. The German attack will be supported by one Tiger. This will be a straight out assault and encirclement of a Russian prepared defence.
Airsoft Rules for Second Scenario -
1) No ammo restrictions 2) Partisan rules - The Russians are allowed up to four partisans for this skirmish. These are the sneaky partisan variety. Other partisans not picked as part of this group must carry their weapons. The sneaky partisans will be allowed to freely traverse the play area while unarmed. There will be sandbag emplacements to represent partisan weapon stash points. Partisans can retrieve their weapons from these stash points at which point they are fair game. Sneaky partisans respawn as regular garden variety partisans. 3) The German tank will not be subject to frontal fire. It will require a hit to kill plates affixed to the rear or sides to kill it. 4) Random respawn rules will be used and will favor the attacker. 5) The Germans win by capturing the Russian defensive position, a special sandbag emplacement.
1400 hrs - Break
1430 hrs - Third Scenario - Meeting Engagement 1943, "It's About the Roads."
It's fairly static along the Northern Front and opposing Soviet and German patrols contact each other along a road network interspersed with a ridgeline.
Airsoft Rules for Third Scenario -
1) There will be an objective placed on the road network and each side will field one vehicle. Commanders will be told at the beginning of the battle what is the objective. Both sides will start equal distance from the objective and then race for it. (Be careful, the roads might have enemy afoot. The Russians will have an anti-tank gun to counter the Tiger. Whoever controls the objective after two hours wins. 2) Respawn points - five minute rule on repawning. Naturally, if it took five minutes to walk to the respawn point then go ahead and reinsert (if you get lucky). Use common sense. I just don't want people jumping back in within minutes of dying. 3) No ammo restrictions but anti-tank weapons will be limited to five shots. This is a "run and gun" scenario. (Better be in shape. ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Radio use for this event is being explored and will be incorporated at some point.
1630 hrs - Event play closes down - return to Forest Lane for awards ceremony followed by R&R. Can someone say "Jerry's place?" Or bring swimwear.
Persons wishing to stay on Saturday night are welcome to before the long drive home on Sunday morning. Actually, an optional fourth skirmish or training event or filming morning is contemplated for Sunday morning. So more to follow on that. What would you all like to see on Sunday morning?
If you're not in a German or Russian impression, you'll be used to balance sides.
Naturally all of these skirmish rules hinge on completion of some projects between now and then but they all seem doable.

We anticipate a solid turnout of Soviets for this event, but could always use more! Any other Russkies care to join the valiant 198th to shoot at Germans among the Baltic pines?

Friday, 25 April - Somewhere near Riga - Radio communications coming into 3rd Panzergrenadier HQ's indicate a banner day for reinforcements. It looks as if armor support will be greater than expected for the upcoming campaign. The arrival of these forces will be a welcome addition to the defense of the Baltic region. Rumor has it that we may even be supported by some heavy armor. This is fortunate in view of scout reports indicating heavier than expected Soviet armored columns. Event registration is filling up nicely. You don't want to miss this event. Forewarned is forearmed. We're expecting to cap attendance at some point to maintain quality. This has all the potential of being the best event ever. Sorry, for operational secrecy, no details yet. Just trust me. Once again, PM me if you intend on reserving a spot.

Here are photos to refresh the memories of others and to provide information to those that didn't see the play area. Summer shot of us on the new road to Franz's lake lot. Said lake lot Spring picture of a secondary road (snowmobile trail) Spring pic of a main road. This has been improved and is wider and smoother. The clearing in the spring. Again the road is much nicer now and the clearing is the only real open area on the 68-acres. ersatzjack2 will be using his weekends and off groups to further improve conditions at the property. We expect several sandbag emplacements, and manicured (maybe that's a bit strong of a term ) roads and grounds. He'll do what he can before the event.

I like that pic of the clearing in spring, it kind of looks like a battleground with all those trees down.

Okay - time to unveil premier number one. This will be the biggest one but by no means the last one. Maybe not even the biggest. Remember Will Foster of 1/2-scale Tiger Tank fame? If not, review link below. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH5eYCdheLwWell after he converts it to airsoft and pulls the paintball machine guns out, he and crew will bolster the German forces at this event. That means that the Soviets will have the Pak38 for defense in those scenarios and we'll pretend it is a Soviet AT-gun. The Tiger will boast kill-plates so that only side and rear hits will disable it. It should be more fun that way. For us, not the Soviets. ;D Who knows, maybe we'll figure out a JS-I scenario to keep it balanced. One premier announced and four to go. Heh-heh.

Well, I got around to finishing another premier. (Let's see this will be number two.) It will probably get a workout at Baltic Summer which is why I was working on it. Gryphon is getting it for his Russian segment of the MOA and we'll just see how he plans to use it. It is pretty hard hitting so now we'll have to be more cautious. ww2aa.proboards45.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=technical&thread=3808This premier goes hand in hand with a Gryphon premier but I ain't talking..... yet. ;D

We're about two months away and I would like to get an initial headcount of those interested in attending. If you've already pm'ed me on the Midwest Ostfront website you don't need to do it again. If you haven't pm'ed me, then do so now on this site so that I can post some initial numbers. Let me know your WW2AA name and what impression you're coming as. If you plan on coming as something besides German or Russian, that's fine. Most likely any Americans or Partisans will be fighting with the Russians as there seem to be plenty of Germans who have already confirmed. Thanks. I'll post the initial numbers in a few days.
I spent most of today emplacing sandbags on the property. There will be three strongpoints or points of defensive interest. All in all I placed about 200 sandbags today. Tomorrow and Wednesday I'll be cutting back the brush and grass along the roads. There's plenty of them as we have asphalt, gravel, and unpaved logging trails. Whew! Just trying to get things ready.

Sounds like an awesome time, I'll do my best to make it out to this one and be in my new Ranger also. I hope the poor allies get some anti-tank weapons: bazooka, panzerfaust, panzershreck, etc.

Better bring a back up gun, the Garand might be an issue, since the 8mm I don't think are bio.

The Russian 198th Rifle Division armored car (BA-64) and crew will be ready to fight back the German dogs of war. I and Todd will be working on growing the number of Russian infantry support/riflemen for this event. If interested in doing Russian, feel free to contact us for more info.

I was just up there over the Fourth of July and have to say that the grounds look very challenging. Camping will be at Crane Lake, where there will be access to a refrigerator, electricity, outhouse facility and for the women, toilets. Fresh water will be there and for Saturday night the lake will be available for swimming. We plan to allow the Cabin's use for VIPs (I think we know who they will be) and other folks should expect to camp out. The battles will take place a five minute drive away at Crawford Lake. Different terrain entirely. Control of roads will be crucial and you should all be doing something aerobic to get ready. Bring insect repellent. In August, the bugs should be further reduced but if you don't have it and need it you will be miserable. I don't mean to scare anyone about critters. This is dry sandy soil with excellent drainage and rolling terrain and mature forest so there are no factors creating excessive bugs (no swamp or anything marshy) but on the other hand this is wild woods and so plan accordingly. I'll be up there the week of the event doing trail grooming and other prep work so it should be ready for the guests. Don't forget - Bio bbs only. I did get to see my brother's handiwork on emplacements this weekend and they have my big fat stamp of approval. Better he put them up than me if you catch my drift. Another good idea for this event is to bring a compass if you have one. It is such a large play area, that it could prove useful. We might just conduct a headcount before going back to Crane Lake on Sat night.

Otto, could you work up maps as well? If the area is that big, some sort of navigational aid might be useful. Also, using a couple mortar shell fireworks to signal game start and stop might be good as well. Everybody hears those things.

I'm thinking we'll have the opposing teams use walkie talkies to avoid any dispute about start-up times for the scenarios as well as the ending of a scenario. While there is oodles of room if we designate avenues of approach and draw artificial boundaries we shouldn't lose anyone.
Raimund - We are all excited too about the Tiger. I hope that Will fulfills his commitment to us but I don't count my chickens before they are hatched. But even if the tank doesn't show we still have the Russian armored car. Maybe a kubel too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on all items. After a year and a half in this hobby, I've grown modestly more patient. See you in about 10-days at Migano. I doubt we'll have the same attendance as you folks.
Garrick - Maps? Well this is all part of a lake development project and the realtor has a wonderful billboard up about 1/2 mile from my entrance. You pass it on the way to the land. We'll all stop there on the way for a brief overview of the lots and this way folks will get their bearings. That should suffice.
