Let me tell you somthing sniper. You can be a cheap guy and still buy quality uniforms and guns. Just take your time, you seem to be rushing into things like MG42 conversions and other things. I suggest you don't try making a cheap M1 Garand out of a cushman mold or somthing. Try making a 2nd Bat style M1. I plan on making mine for about 200$. If you look around you can probably find a used M14 for a cheap price and you can pick up good prices on M1 Garand pieces on eBay. Here is a link for directions on building one: www.ontarioairsoftwwiireenactors.com/PDFs/Upgrades/M14_to_a_M1_Garand.pdf If your still intrested in building a cheap one I guess you could try an M14 for the base gun and a Cushman M1 Garand for the rest. It would be a hard conversion take it from tommygunner. (He's the guy who made the Cushman B.A.R into a decent Airsoft gun). home.comcast.net/~roja/188.html From there I have no clue. It would be better to stick to 2nd Bats conversion but it's your choice. -sgttom

I had no intentions of using a cusman kit , I was talking about using putty to make the front end of an m14 look like a grand I have seen several done like this but I do not know how to do it , it was just an idea.

a "grand" conversion? You mean garand right?
Putty alone wont come nearly close enough to replicating an m1 garand. The best way by far is doing it 2nd bat style. Check out the various threads on m14-m1 garand conversions, they will give you far more information than a new thread here will.

It wouyld cheaper, easier and more authentic to use actual wood handguard parts and gas reservoir assembly than to try to fabricate something out of putty. You could use putty (resin paste) to build up the shape of the M14 lower stock to replicate a more accurate Garand style shape. This together with shortening the stock at the end results in a pretty good looking replica Garand. There are other enhancement to do as well but overall this is in my opinion the best approach to take. As mentioned there are pages upon pages here on the board discussing this project and well over 200 conversion throughout the world that have been completed. (Probably more than 300 since I know directly about 140 of them!)

I still see a lot of M-14s being used in WW2 events in magazines, is this something you see less and less of now that good covnersions are coming out?

Yes, definitely. but there is still a big shortage of aeg garands sadly. Just for perspective, Me, biged, and sam were the only guys with m1-m14 conversions at the NY bulge event out of about 15 allies, although everyone did have peroid weaponry and impressions. the AEG garands typically show up in their biggest numbers at the Battlesim events and the ones in Norway (they have an excellent m1/other weapon ratio there).
Most of the event's (at least ones I've seen) in magazines aren't really ww2 per' se', more like the scenario and non-stringent impressions. That could be one of the reasons why u see less m1 conversions.

At Jump to Destiny there were some non WW2 airsoft weapons but frankly very few. Perhaps five out of 60 plus guys. I think I saw three maybe four M-14s and one AK and that was late in the event when the fellows main weapon apparently went down.
There were still too many Thompsons but given that airborne units were depicted actually not by a great deal. The ratio keeps getting better and better. Incidently, while there are some of my Garand AEGs in Norway a far larger number are in Finland where my records show I have sold 17 rifles! Almost a dozen went to the same team!
I wish I had gathered all the Garand guys at Jump to Destiny and took a picture but simply never got around to it. It probably was record number of Garands with mine, some home builts, two AZRs and a couple of Marushin gas guns. I calculate there must have been 17 or eighteen Garand airsoft guns at the event which has to be a record.
It was funny watching the guys attempt close order drill with Thompsons. The Garands, BAR and Springfields definitely looked more appropriate. (Two of my Springfields were at the event) One was used by a French partisan and the other by a GI. Both did quite well with them.
As you glance through the pictures it's clear there were mostly WW2 weapons present and a lot of Garands. Things are definitely getting much much better in that regard. Lots of Kar 98s with the German side along with a good mix of MP40s, some MP44s and a whole lot of MGs!
The British were also well represented with an Enfield, A Bren, Sten and Vickers. (Thanks to Schimitty!) Proper weapons definitely add a lot

I hope, it isn't a dead topic To build my custom SKS I buy a full CYMA M14 AEG, but I don't need the outer parts... So I think about turning it into an M1 garand... I found this: www.paradestore.com/detail.aspx?ID=73I could buy cheap parts for the garand, but there are no specifications, or close pictures about them... What about using them? thanx ;D
