Well since I only took two pictures here they are.
Gryphon sporting his rain gear. Boy does he look the part.
Paul went back to his camouflage helmet paint scheme and are we glad for that. Great look. He killed alot of Russians today.
Now on to the after-action. I just enjoy this hobby more and more. Five skirmishes in one day. Sure I sat one out for heat exhaustion reasons but I had a great time even considering the mosquitos. They were just horrible but with some dope on you could still endure them. A hearty thanks goes to our land host, Jason (owner of Airsoft Battle Zone) and to the organizer for this event, Kerrick13 since it was obvious that he spent alot of time and effort thinking about the scenarios. Lots of fun ideas with his strategic map of the Ukraine and his point system and whatnot that will allow a deeper level of immersion for those that want to follow along. That's the best part --- in that it is an optional extra layer ---- and for players that just want to play the battles, they don't really need to concern themselves. It feels like we are on the strategic map of a game of Close Combat V.
The battles swung back and forth and everyone got in plenty of trigger time that wanted it. The AT gun was super fun to use and actually killed someone this time. Garrick came through and supplied the gas and was the main gunner. We still need to work out a better anti-personnel round but I'm confident we are on the right track. The MG crapped out but that just gives me a reason to learn about it. Udo sure looked the part of an Unteroffizer with his new PPsh-41 from Gryphon and that makes everyone happy. No one to my knowledge was hurt and I don't know of a single incident where folks didn't call their hits or squabbled about a hit. The BANG rule worked pretty good again. That's a keeper. The grenades were thrown with a vengance and were fun to watch. Those rules seem great with the foam grenades we are using.
Not that everything was positive. Here is where I felt we messed up. Too many respawns. We got away from random respawn which I thought we wanted to give a try to. Frankly I really want to see random and less frequent respawn. Also, once again the respawn point was too close to objective areas in several scenarios. Can't have a breakthrough that way. ersatzjack2 wasn't even using his extra respawn ability because numerous rubber bands and medic rules made it very unneeded. I'd like to see random infrequent respawns with squad leader bonus respawns being valuable. As for medic rules, I just hate them. I know some folks like them. There's just so many variables. Can the wounded guy crawl, or can he head back on his own, why can't I kill a wounded guy with another hit? Yuk! I think it's safe to say that they won't be a part of Baltic Summer. One or the other guys. Respawn or medics. But we really have to move those respawn points away so that breakthroughs can occur. Maybe since the medic and respawn rules will never satisfy everyone we leave it up to event organizers to use what they prefer. That way at least some of the time we'll get what we want.
Finally, thanks all for coming and I'm not making any promises but I smell video on this one. Lots of camera and movie making going on. I can hardly wait.
