Indeed. Command of the "Ghost Division" as they called it, was one of the high points of his career.

Very cool movie, Im going to go buy that book now.
Steven Pressfield is a great author...I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend everyone read "Gates of Fire" about the Spartans (and allies) stand at Thermopylae. I also read his book about Alexander...great stuff!
What Pressfield failed to mention though was that Hitler had ordered Rommel to stay on the defensive...he didnt want him to attack. Rommel would have been better off in the long run if he had done just that.
Its also unfair in my mind to mention Rommel without mentioning Heinz Guderian, the revolutionary who created and ran Germany's panzer corps - and who was also the fundamental leader in developing the theory of blitzkrieg (maneuver warfare), which we used to win Gulf War 1.
