Hey Guys i've had a hunt on the forum and found several MG42 threads but none with the info i need, i am looking at buying a Shoei MG42, but due to Full Auto airsoft guns being illegal in NZ it has no internals, i see someone produced an AEG verion from the Shoei's gas version, does anyone have one, if so can the post photos of the internals, does anyone know what mechbox will fit with the least amount of moding, has anyone converted on to electric before that can post tips or are the gas internals avalible elsewhere?

I believe Ultima is the company that installs AEG internals into Shoei Guns. Don't quote me on this but I think one of our members here (burt "the great") has a shoei MG42 and is converting it to AEG.

Is anyone able to offer any help with this, it looks like i will probably use an AK mechbox for the conversion and cut and space the grip, also looking for photos of the Ultimas Internals.

Unfortunately an M249 box wont fit, the Mg42 reciever is not deep enough the accomodate it. almost half the box would have to hang out the bottom of the gun and then you would have trouble attaching the grip stick. I have seen someone put a P90 box into one but than had a large protrusion behind the gripstick house the motor, it didnt look pretty! V3 based box is the best way forward IMO. The Ultima uses a custom build CNC'd gearbox shell which forms the entire gripstick body itself.

The PGC-249 gearbox is a great gearbox. The Star Lexan 249 gearbox is copy of the PGC-249 box. The Wild Monkey 249 gearbox is a metal copy of the Star 249 box. Finally the CA-249 metal gearbox is similar but not the same dimensions as the PGC/Star/Monkey. The CA249 is taller, wider and longer. There was someone on airsoft retreat who is did a conversion using a CA249. While it looks good, it does not look correct. From the photos he posted it looks odd. I'll see if I can find the link. www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=64419.25///ed///
