This is to sound out interest for sonic grenades. A coworker has completed an initial prototype for me and is working on an improved version. The sonic unit will be on an inch wide circuit board and be 2-3 inches long. You pull the pin and after five seconds a tone sounds briefly, then shuts off. After a little while the grenade 'chirps' every few seconds to help you locate it later.
My current cost estimates are $20 per sonic unit and $30 if you want a full sonic grenade. At the moment the only grenades I make are foam stick grenades of Gryphon's design. I would like to know how many people would be interested in purchasing grenades/sonic units and how many before I make the jump and buy $500 worth of electonic components to make a production run. I will put up pictures and probably a video when I get the second prototype.

Wolfgang, you know I'll be down for a couple! Also, the sonic mechanism could be modded for some of your other Pioneer toys like the AT mines etc.
For everybody else: I saw the prototype and it looked great. The sonic aspect will actually allow you to eliminate people in open space with a grenade, rather than just force them to disperse like we currently do (in the MOA that is).

Not terribly loud, but enough to get the attention of anyone in the blast radius. It is well below the level of personal alarms, maybe somewhere around the level of a sustained microwave beep. It also depends a bit on the container. The first prototype was contained within a hollow plastic replica grenade. A container that was more open would muffle it less.

We used sonic trip wire mines at a few events before Falaise Gap and a few others before that, they worked pretty well in scenarios.

As promised. A shot of all the components. The next prototype will not be powered by a 9 volt. The wires were a definite weak point in a design that had to withstand being thrown, and the battery added too much weight. The next one will be powered by probably a button cell on the board. The 'pin' is a jack like that on headphones. Different angle. My cell phone camera sucks. A shot of the unit sitting inside the plastic replica grenade head. The wire on the jack 'pin' runs down through the handle so you can take off the bottom cap and pull the arming pin.
