Soooooo..... who's got the best Splinter Pattern Zeltbahns out there? It seams Hessian Antique and Landser Outfitters are the best price at $69.99 with At The Front, a close second at $75.00. The ones Trident sells are the highest at $89.95!! My intent is to have four of them to make a shelter out of and I already have one I got on eBay a while back. By the way, here is a link that shows the wear and use of Zeltbahns. From how to fold them, make a poncho, make a floatation device as well as how to assemble Zelts into several size shelters. www.zeltbahn.net/

I would buy (4) at the same time from the same vendor. When I was selling the Sturm zelts (same ones ATF, Trident, & Hessian are selling) it seemed the buttonpattern changed with every run. If you bought a Chinese zelt off ebay I can guarantee it will NOT button up with the ones you are looking at from Hessian.

ATF gives you a semi discount if you buy all 4 at once.

What kind of Zelts are you looking for?. As stated before Splinter Zelts! More for use as a tent than anything else. So waterproof would be nice!!

The Zelt I bought was a used one from a re-enactor, so I don't know where it was made. PROBABLY China though. I had thought the same thing too......About buying four at once so the button pattern would match!! So Hessen, ATF and Trident are ALL Sturm Zelts? If so.....then it would be best to get them from ATF as they have a four for $275 deal!?! Comments anyone??? Anyone??? Bueller??

Wow that is a GREAT price!! So if this is the same as the Hessen Zelt, then that means they are STURM Zelts? I noticed Landser has a deal that if you buy four or more they are only $55.99, but that is not as cheap as the Collectors Armory Zelts for only $49.00 each!! Has anyone bought one from them? Their add says "Dry Clean Only" which would lead me to believe they are waterproof!! By the way I am not after cheap!! I am a firm believer in "Buy cheap, buy twice!!"What I want is the best quality for the best price! So if Sturm Zelts are the way to go then whoever has them for the cheapest price is the place to buy them!!

The Sturm splinter zelts are not waterproof...just a heads up. So Heseen's whose ad says "Made of high quality water-resistant canvas." and Tridents that are advertised as being "Waterproof" may not be from Sturm

Her is a quick run down on zelts and their "sellers". I have dealt with all these vendors and they sell the same Sturm items I do.
Trident (old zelts) = China not waterproof Trident (new zelts) = China claim to be waterproof Landser = Sturm zelts not waterproof ATF = Sturm zelts not waterproof Hessian = Sturm not waterproof
The zelts can be easily "waterproofed" with "camp dry" or any other waterproofing spray. It's not hard to do.

Zak ;D used to sell (4) splinter zelts for $270.00 SHIPPED (add 3% if using Paypal). Apparently that was too expensive because everyone buys from At The Front. My zelts and ATF's were the same.

The only one I had gotten around too was Collectors Armory who has Zelts for $49.00. His reply was... Our Zeltbahns are not waterproof and are not made by Sturm. We import them from Pakistan.

Most if not all repop splinter zelts arent waterproof. They all need to be treated.
With that being said orginal ones are waterproof as long as you dont touch the sides. Once you do they leak there.

I still have to see a zelt that are actually waterproof right from the manufacturer. Sturms are not, SM wholesale are not, The Czech made ones are not. But why the fuss? It took me less than an hour to waterproof two zelts, and only cost me like 1$ in wax.

Thanks for the waterproofing info!! That's not a problem, I have been PM'd by some people who like the Trident Zelts the best. The only ones that are advertised as being waterproof, but then again they are most expensive as well and offer no "four for" price.
As far using them just for a tent, I would think I would want higher quality for a tent, as opposed to one that is just rolled up on my gear and never used. Ones used for a tent would need to be pretty sturdy, so the higher the quality the construction of the Zelt is, the better it would be, for my purpose!!

Alles,
The new landser zelts are NOT i repeat NOT sturm zelts. They are the best on the market now. using 3 holed zinc buttons and cotton poplin as a Base material. they also have correct buttons that line up. They also have a fall side and a spring side that sturm zelts lack. i have original, sturm, and landser zelts and landser is as perfect as they will be. i can post a picture comparison if no one believes. and as for grommets letting go. there is a simple landser trick to remedy this. a small loop of Brown cotton rope that leads from the grommet to the stake in the ground will remedy this. the sturm zelts are hopeless.

The Sturm zelts actually have two different sides: It matches up nicely with the mint original my friend aquired a few weeks ago. Perhaps yous rtusm zelt are a bit older? BUT the buttons are all four hole ones (which doesn't make any sense whatsoever, as three hole ones are easier to sew onto the zelts) I personally had the impression that the SM wholesale was of the best quality. The ones retailed by 1944militaria (amongst others). If quality is an issue, and the zelt is going to be part of your primary impression, then go for one of the expensive copies (SM wholesale), but if it's for making a tent for yourself or even your squad, and you'd be needing a lot of them, then go for the sturm ones.

Boy!! I wish I could go to a store and look at all the Zelts that are out there!! After what Jugenkreiger wrote, I'd be tempted to try the Landser Zelts, but then looking at the photo of the Sturm Zelt that Mikkel posted, I would say that it looks just like the one I already bought from a guy on Ebay!! If I knew for sure that what I have was a Sturm Zelt, then I'd just buy three more!!
Also, I thought I knew of most of the places that sold repro stuff?!?! I never heard of SM before! I just looked at their site! They have some very nice stuff!! Although VERY expensive, if that's where 1944 Militaria get's their stuff, I see why they are so highly priced, granted I'm sure the quality is great, better be for that price!! I didn't see any Zelts listed on SM Wholesales website, maybe they are out, but 1944 did, they were like $145.00!!!! Very nice quality though or so it seams!!

SM Wholesale is known for ripping people off. Unless you can deal with him in person, I don't think you should buy from him.

Well it's close to decision time! I took a closer look at the Zelt I already have and it looks to be identical to the photo of the Sturm Zelt that mikkel posted!! The color looks right on and it has the four hole buttons as well. I bought it second hand on eBay for $45.00, but it was brand new never used. I think I'll email the guy I bought it from and ask where he got it.
So if it is a Sturm Zelt, I'll just buy three more, if not I'll probably do the Landser 4 for $55.99 each deal!!
