I am starting an SS impression and i am absolutley in love with the look of the helmets with chicken wire and netting. Can anyone supply some picures of the wired helmets? Also, does anyone know how to attach chicken wire to the helmets?

There are no existing photos of SS soldaten ever wearing chicken wire on their helmet. An iron wrap could be your best bet.

The correct way to chicken wire is with european chicken wire.
Nets are made with jute. ATF has them or you can make your own.
I used a coat hanger to make my wrap like flectarn.

If you think chiken wire looks cool then go for it..Even if there are no existing photos of SS soldiers doing it..This is not reenactment..right? ;-)

Best thing to do is just take some dirt and rub it on your helmet. Reenactors/airsofters spend entirely too much time pimping out their helmets when the vast majority of soldiers did not. Leave it be.

So in other word, it is 15 cents worth of left hand twist European chicken wire, being sold for $80.00 Next time I'm at a Home Depot in France I'll buy a roll for 5 Euros, then retire ;D

One SS in a group of 20 with chicken wire cover is not so wrong....5 SS with them is the problem. It was a fairly common field made item I believe. An SS soldier could have seen one and liked it and made one for himself. That is both plausible and not a problem. Photo evidence does not show they were used but there were a lot of SS soldiers and we don't have pictures of all of them. If it were something else like SS wearing FJ jump pants. That would be a little harder to justify. But helmet covers we let go I think. Up to you man, if you like it do it.

Like CharleyNovember said , there where thousands of WSS troopers and we don't have pics of every single one of them. Chicken Wire was more commonly used on the Western Front , but also , nets (both German made and Allied nets where used) Breadbag straps and even plain old string was used to attach foliage to helmets. Case in point , check out this WSS troopers at Arnhem One has the Breadbag strap and the other has String tied to the helmet .

WOW Adler great pic! That fellow sitting on the hood is the heaviest German Soldier I've ever seen! If I didn't know better I would think that was a doctored up modern reenactment photo! There really was guys as big as me in the Wehrmacht, just like my grand dad always told me!!!

I AM going to wire my helmet, why? Because it looks cool. There were plenty of Guys that did RADICAL things to their helmets like paint GIANT skulls on the foreheads and sayings just like we did. To have an agrument over some chicken wire seems petty, that wa something that was of taste. I personally would have put wire on my helmett to help it look like deris.

Well you were saying that chicken wire wasnt as radical as an SS Soldaten wearing jump trousers. However, every SS Fallschirmjager wore m38 or m40 jump trousers. Maybe I just missed your point entirely. I have not the slightest clue of what you're talking about.... If you'd like to wire your helmet just do it. You dont care enough about authenticity to not use chicken wire so, there isnt much of a point of going out of your way to get european chicken wire.

No I miss typed my response sorry not thinking right I guess. My point was it was a field made item so I would let it go on a limited basis as long as you don't have a whole SS platoon with wire baskets it would not be unheard of. There are no photos but like I said crap loads of SS troops that didn't get a picture taken during the war + an easy field made item = Plausible in my book on a limited basis. I was thinking of the SSFJ pictures I was looking at in another thread and somehow tried to add that in...

German soldiers, finnish soldiers it was done nevertheless..Man! he wanted help with pictures and how to fasten the chickenwire to the helmet..Jeez!
If you are a bit handy you can actually make euro type chickenwire yourself of plain wire..I made some for one of those plastic swat type helmets for one of my kids..It looks a bit dodgy but much better than regular CW..
