Hi guys, I am looking to get started into WW2 airsoft and I have a G36c just laying around. I am moderately good with wood working and I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas of what German, American or Russian gun I could come up with. If I have to cut the whole gun down to just the gearbox, hop up and barrel, then so be it. Help appreciated please.

I think you are looking at this backwards. The gear will cost you more than the gun. Decide which nations/army you want emulate first then start collecting. I also suggest if you want to start into WW2 that you start with a WW2 era gun. Converting the G36 into anything that resembles a ww2 gun would be quite difficult and expensive , I cannot even think of one gun it comes close to looking like. An MP44 would be quite a stretch You can pick up a China Made German MP40 or American M1A1 for around $100, your gear alone will be triple that when you look at helmets, boots, web gear, uniform and etc.

Well pick a Nationality. Your main choices are German, US, British, or Russian. Once you pick your nationality number it down to Paratrooper, or Infantry. Another good thing to do is look if there are any units near you, if there are pick one of them and your unit should help you from there. About modifiying a G36 it will cost you a lot of money and time so just get an Already made WWII gun or try making a different custom gun. Hope that helps! -sgttom

Of course you could also choose some of the special groups such as the OSS or the original SAS (someone correct me if I'm wrong) or, Italy, Austria, Canada, Australia and pretty much any other nation in the which would be nearly every nation seeing as it was a World War. Germans, Americans, British, and Russians just happen to be the most numerous and easy to find nationalities which translates into lower costs.

You might be able to make a G36 look like an MG34 - check out the "AK to MG34" thread pinned in this section.

Also with much work and ingenuity could also get a mg42 going froma version 3 box. As you would really use is the mech box hop up and inner barrel
