Hi there.. First of all, great forum, been reading for a while now, lots of great tips on weathering I already put to good use on my other guns. (AKM, AKSU).
I'm not a reenactor but love the looks of WWII era German guns, when I read about the AGM MP40 I just went for it.
I like my guns a bit upgraded internally though, for durability an consistency reasons, and one of the upgrades will be a 6.04 "precision" barrel. The MP40 is on it's way, but I'd like to order a few parts already...
So my question is: what is the length of the inner barrel of the AGM MP40?
Thank you in advance,
Maximus
:edit: I've modified the topic title to better represent the thing I'm dealing with here...
I would really like to replace the hopup and barrel with a TM barrel and TM hopup.. I've read firesupport sells a modified MP40 that has this... Some other forums mention it, but never is there any useable info on wich hopup/barrel or how to replace... Can you guys help me?

you have to fit a new hopup to replace the inner barrel in the MP40s as they are one piece.

Yeah..and they are a mess to pull apart..But there isnt any real need to upgrade a MP40..The shoot pretty damn god straight out of the box..Some of the internals maybe if you like tinkering..

I do like some tinkering... As a matter of fact I need to pull apart everything that gets into my hands ;D Not always a good thing.. If the barrel and hopup are one piece... How can you ever replace the hopup rubber?? If I'm going to replace the barrel&hopup... Is it an AK style hopup? TM AK style? or ICS AK style? (the holes for the screws are located different) Anyone who did this already? thanks for the info!

You won't find an aftermarket one. It is close however to the AK style with a slide and not a dial anyways but definitely not the same as an AK. At least my hop-up comes apart, I'm not sure why there are different ones. The bucking is typical as is the the barrel cut. I would assume the MP5 barrel would fit fine... if you get your hop-up apart. Careful not to loose the little nub

Thx for the info... I have enough replacement parts for AEG's, more precisely AK variants, as I've had 4 AK's and did all the work on them myself... Nubs, rubber or chamber shouldn't be a problem... But how can firesupport have made a standard TM hopup and barrel to fit then?? I'll make it into a project, the gun itself should arrive next week, I'll post any work I'm going to perform on it on this forum, so I can give something back to the community here Any input is always welcome, first will come the inner work, I will make a durable gun out of it, that's why I want it to be upgraded and I'd like to loose the hopup... It shouldn't be a pro gun, but it should shoot straight, consistent and for a long time. Bushings, piston(&head), cylinder(&head) and gears will be upgraded too. Spring will stay and if it wears out it will be replaced by a standard M100.

Well i must say,as a stock gun the MP40 is a really good performer..almost as good as the Thompson..I haven't chronoed it but it feels like the later MP;s is a bit over a stock TM Thompson.Dont fix it if it aint broke:-)

The only real problem with the stock AGM MP40 is it is poorly shimmed and greased. Really all that needs to done is clean it out, re-grease, replace the bushings and re-shim and get a better battery pack. Do not upgrade the spring to a stronger one becuase the battery size is limited.

Ok, but before the gun fires even one bullet the gearbox will be cracked open, almost everything will be replaced to my standards, shimmed and greased to my standards, and put back together. Then I'd like to replace the barrel and hopup to something I prefer, and I know it won't perform bad in it's stock form, I want the gun to meet a certain standard in my arsenal, and that includes replacing the odd hopup/barrel to a standard TM hopup/barrel so it is maintenance and improvement friendly. I'm still learning, and I want to make the best possible gun out of what I'll get in the mail. When that is sorted out, the thing will get a thorough weathering treatment, some serious abuse, fake-bake, removal of the selector switch, and some cleaning afterwards. When THAT is sorted out, I'll get a nice high-mah 8.4 battery pack to get that slow steady smg ROF, and a nice leather sling. Presto! ;D I bought this cheap AEG so I could alter it in what I'd like it to be... Not to use it as it is and fix if it's broken.... I know that sounds stupid, but hey, it's what I want I don't want the included hopup, I want a standard hopup and a tightbore... I buy a cheap AEG and upgrade it to higher standards than I could do with a brand AEG for the same price... As mentioned earlier, it's a project gun, it's ment to be taken apart... But thank you for your comments, I certainly understand what you're telling me...

I wish you luck with the hop upgrade. It will be challenging probably but worth it in the end. Please let us know how it goes and update us with your progress.

Sounds like a good plan Maximus86 and I like your thinking. I'm not sure why you want to replace the hop-up though, I think it's quite good as is except the slide screw need a bit tightening up and the bucking is a bit hard so a new softer Systema one would be a help with any air leaks. A decent piston head, cylinder and cylinder head would also be a benefit. Take a chrono reading before and and after so we can see your results. Should be interesting.
