So the field owner Oberst is planning on doing a battle of the bulge game this year in conjunction with the Iwo Jima game, now, the general criticism of his games is he allows essentially anything as far as weapon and uniform, only requirement is to shoot semi only basically. This time he's lowered the attendance and has a lot stricter rules (A big improvement over last time)
I'm going to be going to this game as a 30th infantry rifleman and I'll be bringing a 30cal along with a Garand. Hopefully if he gets a high attendance he'll do more games with stricter requirements, it'd be great to have a field near me that does a handful of WWII events.

Operation Stösser December 17th 1944 Objective! To capture the Baraque Michel Crossroads.
Just after midnight on 17 December, 112 Ju 52 transport planes with around 1,300 Fallschirmjäger (German paratroopers) on board took off amid a powerful snowstorm, with strong winds and extensive low cloud cover. As a result, many planes went off course, and men were dropped as far as a dozen kilometres away from the intended drop zone, with only a fraction of the force landing near it. Strong winds also took off-target those paratroopers whose planes were relatively close to the intended drop zone and made their landings far rougher.
By noon a group of around 300 managed to assemble, but this force was too small and too weak to counter the Allies. Colonel von der Heydte abandoned plans to take the crossroads and instead ordered his men to harass the Allied troops in the vicinity with guerrilla-like actions. Because of the extensive dispersal of the jump, with Fallschirmjäger being reported all over the Ardennes, the Allies believed a major division-sized jump had taken place, resulting in much confusion and causing them to allocate men to secure their rear instead of sending them off to the front to face the main German thrust.
Rules: This is going to be an Advanced game!! So the rules will be strict on uniforms and weapons used.
Uniforms:
American troops must wear the following... Some of you have actual WW2 uniforms Wear them!! If you do not have a WW2 U.S. uniform you may use Vietnam OD Green uniform (Many players have a Vietnam loadout)or buy an OD green set of BDU's Propper sells such sets and they make excellent Vietnam uniforms so in buying a set you are getting yourself ready for such games as Hac Bao or the games that the Saint James Grenadiers run. You will need to buy the old style US helmet as well, these can be found at any GI Surplus store, do not wear a cover over the helmet, they are already painted OD green so you are fine, if you have a helmet with Mitchel cover simply take off the cover!!! Use Black Boots NO Tan boots!!!
Germans have it a little easier since WW2 German uniforms are hard to come by and are expensive. For those who do have German uniforms wear them!
For those who do not you may use the following...
Woodland modern German Flectarn, Splinter type BDU's, Russian camo BDU's or U.S. Woodland. Again avoid TAN Boots.
Weapons:
American side: M14 to sim M1 Garand, shooting semi-auto only. OR Actual M1s!
Four Thompson or four M14's to sim BAR's as auto weapons will be allowed those with Thompsons get first dibs on the auto fire positions!
You may also use any bolt action rifles, if they are shooting over 400 fps they will come under our sniper weapon engagement rules.
Three M249's will be allowed to sim 30 or 50 cal machineguns.
German Side:
Germans may field any Bolt action rifles or M14's in semi auto only to sim Kar 98's The germans will have 6 slots open for MP40 full auto weapons, if you do not have an MP40 MP-5's may be used to sim MP40s only!!
For bolt action rifles the same rule applies, if it is shooting over 400 fps sniper engagement rules apply.
Germans may field two RPK support weapons to sim MG42 support machineguns
Both sides may field two rocket launchers.
No other weapons will be allowed except pistols, any pistol may be used.
NO WINDING MAGS except for the support weapons! That last means the heavy machineguns!
Edit note On M14's to clarify, You do NOT have to disable the full auto of your M14, You just are not allowed to fire in full auto with it during this game, unless it is marked for use as a BAR.
The situation: German Paras have pulled together a scratch force behind the American line near an American forward ammo dump and have decided to try and take and hold it until the 6th SS Panzer Army can link up with them.
Why the small number of players? In order for this game to work and be more objective based it is better to keep the number low so that both sides have plenty of elbow room for maneuver. At times one side or the other will find themselves surrounded. Also this game with it's strict requirements is of course not for everybody, some will have to run out and get uniforms or weapons they don't already own. However for those who make the effort, you (Mainly those playing the US side) benefit in building a new impression that will work with other themed games, both at Lenix and at other fields.
As always there will be a great raffle, most of the gun prizes will be themed toward ww2 games, and the grand prize will be a Marushin Full Metal/Wood 8mm M1 Garand SI Version.
One last thing. Yes, either side can win this game, we are not simulating the entire battle in the Ardennes, only one day of it, so we are not trying to change History.
