Save your money and get the Dboys one. The cushman kits feel funny, but Tommygunner here on the boards has actually done magic with them But if your just starting airsoft, id buy the clone dboys one. Ive skirmished with it and it is a pretty impressive replica.

Save up and get a dboyi one, or save up a little more and get a springer converion (use the search function to find some) or a tanaka.
A cushman conversion, even a good one, falls far short of even the dboy's k98.

It looks like we are starting to see some improvements coming through on the dboyi. There's one post today in the technical section on modifying the bolt for improved power and accuracy and battlesim offers an upgraded inner barrel. I'd suggest that the dboyi is a very good model with some areas that can be improved. Since the means of improvement seem to be appearing I think it is a much better buy.

no good way to get rid of the shell problem without converting or is there a cheap source of shells out there cant afford to be losing the shells @ 2.00 apiece and a week long wait to get them.

For the effort to convert you'd be financially in about the same boat to use an actual Kar 98 as your base rifle. A ratty old Kar 98 can be bought as cheaply as the plastic bodied version of the D Boys rifle.
That would be my recommendation. If after reviewing all the thread with tutorials on the process you aren't confident you can do it you probably will be resigned to await some manufacturer coming along and scratching the itch many of us have for a bolt action rifle that is skirmishable and doesn't use the ejecting shells.
With that in mind the Tanaka is a great choice and reasonably inexpensive.

Very true about the Tanaka 2nd Bat. In the time, effort, materials, cost of base gun and Kar-98 rifle, you actually will spend as much if not a bit more in making your own Kar-98 than if you bought the Tanaka.
I say if you cant make a converted rifle deffinatly go with Tanaka, I have seen there gun first hand and have been on the reciveing end of one more than once. Its a great gun and even performs well in winter. Its the only gun in the Axis arsenal here in Illinois I actually look out for lol.

If you're on a budget, a VSR -> K98 springer conversion may not be for you. If money is not an object, a good conversion will put even the Tanaka to shame. But really, if you're motivated and patient enough to save up the money and talented enough to put in the work, no gun is out of reach.

Wouldn't it cost around 200$-250$ to do a Dboys KAR98 springer conversion when the Tanaka is like 500$, right?

Well lets see, a D-boys K-98 will cost about $150 shipped, plus a BAR-10 rifle for about $140 shipped, plus extra magazines for skirmishing. So lets say about $300-$320 once you have gotten the base gun and donor rifles and magazines. Then you have to factor in the time spent in labor that you spend to make it which would most likely ammount to between $100-$200 depending on how long it takes you to convert the gun. Even though you dont actually spend cash from the labor point, you time is still worth something.
I have seen the Tanaka K-98 go between $400-$500 as its depends on where you buy from. So in the end its really up to what you are willing to go through to get a K-98. I think the conversion is a worth while effort, but the Tanaka is a sure thing, especially if you have not done a major conversion like this before. But in the world of conversions ya have to start somewhere and a Springer Bolt action rifle is the easiest of them all to make.

Does anyone convert the Tanaka into a springer? or is that impossible?

no but I do conversions of VSR's through my site www.voodoomachineworks.com and I think Ersatzjack on these forums still does them but check with him. No one would convert a Tanaka to spring. I'd be willing to convert a DBoys to a VSR base though.
