it's about 4 black Americans who somehow find there way behind enemy lines in a small village. the old guy has a statue head which is special for some odd reason. they have a boy who also tags along after theyer unit is killed i guess. looks good but before i see it i just want to hear from the others. it is also directed by spike lee.

I saw it on Friday , they did a good job on the uniforms , but they story line is all over the place , and like allways the Germans are real silly ponys and there is a massacre in there , personally i didn't like it.

I just saw it, The uniforms were good especialy the american and partisan uniforms. I want to say it was an OK movie, but I've seen so many Really bad ww2 movies, (black book, windtalkers, ss doomtrooper, etc) that this movie is a beam of light. I think it's a B+ ww2 movie.
Especially since the director has never made a ww2 movie before, I'm impressed... he blew clint eastwood out of the water.
a good ww2 movie, That shines above the abyss of horrible ww2 movies that have come out lately.
I liked it.
Ohyeah, SHOT ON LOCATION!!! you get to really see what Italy looked like.

I am looking forward to seeing this!! And yes it is probably better them many recent WW2 movies!! I did like "Letters from Iwo Jima" better than than "Flags of our Fathers", but found the CGI special effects in both to be rather "cartoonish". I even fell asleep twice when I saw flags, something I've never done in ANY WW2 movie!!
There is another WW2 movie on the horizon, a Quentin Terrentino movie which is supposed to show the Germans in a different light. So much so I think I read the German Government was at odds with the production because it was too kind to the Nazis!!

Yes its better than the eastwood films, much much more realistic, Men aim, the gun sounds are awesome, best ive ever heard the thompsons and mp40s are dead on. and the film isn't even exactly a war movie. It skips that grey filter thing that made it look like it was never sunny in Iwo (iceland). Thats right Shot on location, you cant beat that, its awsome to see what the gothic line area looked like, and Italian towns to boot.
Spike lee listened to his advisors, Clint did not, or he had applesauce ty advisors im not sure which. I think I'm going to have to post a thread about how much Clint's movies sucked in detail.

Hmm, I thought that letters/flags were really good, could also be the fact that I'm a USMC impressionist and like that there was a pacific movie. I don't know what was "cartoony"... anyways, back on topic, I may see this but I don't like it when the enemy is portrayed as evil, mindless killing machines and I didn't like it when Spike Lee accused Spielberg and Eastwood as being racist for not using african americans even though it wouldn't have been historically accurate.

When I said "cartoonish" I meant the way the CGI generated aircraft moved through the frames in many sequences as well as the way the long shots of landing craft coming and going from the beach all appeared to be the exact same craft multiplied for the scene. They weren't bad movies, I just did not like the CGI effects in them! I did really enjoy Letters more then Flags as Flags jumped around so much that it was hard to keep my attention! OK..So I'll lay off Clint for a while. The most recent WW2 movie that I hated for the story, effects and just about everything else was Pearl Harbor I mean come on Tora, Tora, Tora just blows it away!! Add to that the movie is only half about Pearl Harbor with the The Battle of Britain and the Doolittle Raid thrown in before and after!! I would much rather see The Battle of Britain movie that came out in the late 60's that had real Spitfires as well as Bf-109's and He-111's flying around over any CGI representation, even if the later were Spanish Built Casa versions. Then there's the old Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo movie that used real footage of the Doolittle Raiders practicing there short take offs and some real footage of the actual take offs from the Hornet. Does anyone know if Miracle at St. Anna is based on fact or is it total fiction?

This has been touched on in another thread but QT's will most likely screw up a WW2 film. I expect Windtalkers to seem like an epic awesome film compared to QT's effort but who knows...this quote says volumes I think...

I saw the movie last weekend. Other than a few very small boo-boo-s (and M-14 pouch on the back of Trains belt) it was very well made. Spike Lee really toned down his angry black male theme that normally drags down his movies to a level that actually makes good sense in this film. It was slow in some places, but the on-location action more than made up for the jumbled plot.

I thought it was good. I liked it because it covered a different aspect of the war instead of the same Normandy invasion or the same jump in Holland. Overall good movie A-

You can't pay me to see anything Spike Lee makes! That Brad Pitt movie, Inglourious basterds,is a farce. Not to be taken seriously! Just basically a gore fest with Jewish GI's going around SCALPING Germans for sport! Basically Monty Python type blood shooting all over the place! I'll go see it for the laughs, not to cut it apart.

I saw this movie for the first time the other day. I agree with what was said, good uniforms/location, but I of course am biased and I hope im not the only one who wondered, "Gothic line......The only axis forces were germans???" its a shame, RSI troops played a major role.

I just watched this on Netflix and I was impressed by it. I saw a few things though like German carrying a American .50 ammo box, some of the helmets had the metal clips on them, and the big black soldier had a M-56 pouch.

Terrible movie. Bad storyline, bad acting, bad ending. The only shining light is the location and the fact that it acknowledges African-Americans role in the Italian campaign. I'd skip this one.
