Guys, I loved Valkyrie, another Great ww2 movie for our collections.
Cruise did a perfect job, I have zero complaints.
my only (very slight) critisism, I think they made Major Reimer (spelling) a bit less of a hard ass that he really was,
See this movie!

It looked good from the previews and this is a must see for me on the big screen. If they were smart they would use your comments in promoting the movie. You'd have more weight than Jeffrey Lyons.

It got pretty bad reviews, but the only criticism in these reviews was Cruise's performance. I havent seen it yet, but I plan to. Ebert says that he doesnt understand where the bad reviews are coming from, so I believe your opinions

Come on, guys. Back to the real world here. Has anyone considered that assembling a motor pool of authentic German vehicles would probably triple the cost of making the movie? To put it another way: How much did your total impression cost? How much would your total impression cost if every single piece was an authentic original? Learn to accept the shortcomings of the world we live in, or be prepared for a lot of disappointment in your life!

Just saw it last night and thought it was really good. Kinda rare you say a movie is really good when all the good guys die and they fail. Serously though, very good movie.

I loved it. Excellent plot (true of course) and probably very exciting to anyone who doesn't know the story! The only thing I saw was a few of the men - not only Cruise - had 1st Class wound badges, and I doubt they are dead, dismembered or had five plus wounds.

Tom Cruise did a good job, he is just not popular with the media right now, hence the very critical reviews. The only complaint people seem to bring up is his american accent, which is a totally lame complaint, I think German accents are just as silly, If we were Germans Tom would sound exactly the way he does to us now.
It's a really great movie, and It sux that the reviews it's getting might hurt the prospects for other 100% historically accurate movies in the future.
Next time a producer says, "why don't we just make the movie the way the historical event really happend?" The response will be, " no we'd better not, remmember what happened to Valkerie? so instead lets add two love scenes, a chase scene, and a sword fight in space, yeah its gunna be a great movie now"

And then we'll just SAY that's the way it really happened." Soon we'll see movies that are "loosely affiliated with actual events."

To further add to the above comment. Yeah I know. I said others as well. In the first meeting seen as well as the execution seens (in the beginning) a few of the Germans had the Golden Wound Badges.

I saw it last night with some guys from my reenacting unit. We loved it. Just to finally see a movie where every German soldier wasn't wearing a black SS uniform and carrying an MP40 was refreshing. The action was good, the uniforms and equipment looked damn good! The crowd in the theater ranged from high school age kids to retired folks and it was a packed house. I was actually surprised at the turnout for a 'period' movie. As for the movie critics, they can go piss up a rope. They hate any WWII movie that doesn't portray the Germans as anything but genocidal occultists, and they especially hate Tom Cruise.

Just to finally see a movie where every German soldier wasn't wearing a black SS uniform and carrying an MP40 was refreshing. What movie is that? well, in Casablanca express all the FJ guys had the exact same uniform, and all the guns were MP40s, with the exception of the MG42.

I made the statement as a generalization. We've all seen the crap that holywood has been putting out for years. They were in love with the black uniform. ;D Only recently has anyone even tried to get it right.

That's only because it focused on the Nazis. In American or British based movies, those always have the right of budget while the enemy has to suffer because it is going to show more Allied than Axis. I garuntee you that if there were Americans in Valkyrie, they would all have Vietnam era boots and post war helmets.

probably not, i think directors or whoever put movies together nowadays know more than they did 15-20 years ago. i mean look at flags of our fathers, band of brothers, letters from iwo jima, spr. they werent bad at all, in my opinion anyway.

I never said they were bad, just that most of the budget on uniforms and equipment usually goes to the side the movie is focusing on.

not necessarily, nowadays they use reenactors in their movies who supply their own unifroms. Only the main characters need to have their own uniforms

Hollywood is about the pretty pictures and love scenes. They do not give a damn about what's historically correct and what is not. Honestly, why would they? The percentage of the population that can actually discern between what is accurate and what is not is so minuscule, I can see why Hollywood could care less. These movies are made for the general public, not for people like us. If you want uber historically correct uniforms, you are SOL. I laugh every time I see people complain about the overt farbiness of Hollywood productions. Don't want to sound rude, but the OMGZ WUTTA FARBEH MOVIE threads are worse than OD#3 vs. OD#7 threads.
Having said that, I haven't seen Valkyrie, and I probably never will, because I think Tom Cruise is an silly pony.

Maybe it's the Napoleon complex. Maybe it's his inability to have a discussion without bringing his religion into it. Find and watch any interview with him. He does not seem stable.

He may be a complete douchetard, but I don't give a damn about him or any other actors's personal lives. As far as I'm concerned, they are paid to go to work like the rest of us. Definately overpaid, but all I care about is the end product. Tom Cruise did a great job in this movie. Who they're sleeping with, or what gods they pray too are their own business. I just wish they would keep their opinions to themselves. If folks like my wife would quit buying all those gossip rags, actors would suddenlty find themselves out of the limelight and we wouldn't have to listen to their BS. ;D
