Well, as much as I would love to enjoy this, HBO has decided to take episode #1 OFF it's website, no doubt to spurn Blu-ray sales. Combine that with their video stream flowing slower than it plays, and I'm done. I guess I'll miss this one.

It wont be out on disc in any format until after the whole series is finished airing. Now, doing this to increase HBO subscriptions, that's probably the reason.....

Episode III... skip it. So far I'm not finding the series such a block buster. The editing and story line seems all over the place. More Narration as they did on BoB would be helpful. I want to know about being a WW2 Marine, their training and etc. The show makes these guys look like a bunch of untrained and undiciplined hoodlums.

I'd have to agree. BoB was a lot more exciting and in depth. Still, its nice to see a rarely tackled theater of war get some attention.

I liked the 3rd episode, you see young Marines going back to civilization after months of being in a Jungle hell , they are going to let out steam and look like hoodlums . The march 100 mile walk with the same rations a Japanese soldier would carry was good . Leckie's meeting and interaction with the Australian girls family is also good . His trouble with the Company Commander, Lieutenant Corrigan was also a good scene. Waiting for episode 4 .

Not a fan of episode 3 either. Also, what was with the 1st Marine Div patches?? My Dad was in the 1st Marine Div. When he was alive he said they NEVER wore the patch till AFTER the War. And in the series, guys are wearing it on either the left OR the right shoulder! Very bizarre! And the dress uniforms didn't look like Marine uniforms either, more like Army.

The uniforms worn are USMC Mess Dress. Some were also locally made in Australia. Not sure about the patches though

In the next episode it said it will show sledge training, so we should see the marines training in there.

Although there was no combat, it gave you more of the story, more of the human side of the guys who's story they are telling. They have been through the ordeal of months of combat, they are sorting it out in there own ways. BOB did the same thing at times.

Remember, BoB was a flop when it was on TV - it wasnt until after it hit DVD and word of mouth spread that it became successful - enjoy it now, but give it a chance and wait til its on DVD......

From the photos i have seen of Basilone receiving his Medal of Honor at Camp Balcombe , The Pacific got it right as far as the guys wearing the Mess Dress and the 1st Division Shoulder patches.

Wow,very interesting that they're wearing the patch on their right shoulder. That wasn't as common as it is today, wearing your combat patch. My latest Army recruiter, who was National Guard, served with Marines in Iraq. He was authorized to wear the 1st Mar. patch as a combat patch. Marines to this day do not wear a division patch during ops. As my Dad said, they were Marines, they didn't need a patch to tell them who they were! LOL

Stupid Hong Kong editing of HBO... they cut all the blood and gore out of the series. I know because I downloaded and watched the torrents from the US before hand. Kind of defeats the purpose of showing the horrors of war when you edit out the horror part... duh?
Strange place Hong Kong. No Gore on TV but prostitution is basically legal here... No, I'm not complaining

I dont remember the specific date, but I believe BoB began on the air sometime around 9/11/01 and not many people had a WWII miniseries on the mind.....
