There is a thread excactly like this I believe that was just made a few days ago.
It all depends on what you want: Submachine gun, rifle, sniper rifle, machine gun, the like. 2ndBat's M1 Garands are excellent I've heard. Tokyo Mauri makes good Thompsons and AGM makes MP40s. Do a little research and decide for yourself.
That isn't good advice seeing as he'd like to go to the Rhineland in May. I would not advise someone to waste their money on a dinky little springer (unless you're a Medic like me , I have a UHC 1911.). If you want a pistol, less expensive than the Submachine guns and rifle classes, get a high end pistol. The WE Luger is what I plan to get for a Volkssturm kit. That's only $74.00 plus $20.00 magazines, making the Luger and a few magazines way below $250.
And for the record, I don't use Spell Check, I just spell stuff correctly.
Unless I'm flaming someone, my posts play no role whatsoever in the initial conversation.

I'm 23, went to college for 5 years with a major in Psychology, pretty much all As and Bs... and I can't spell to save my life. Some people have it, other's don't. Spell check is your friend if you are like me.
I'd go for the thompson. It's cheap, it's great. It's hard to beat. The mp40 is alright but of the three, the thompson is the best. You'll have the most fun with it. It's about $150 depending on where you get it. I've had one for a year and half and it's still going strong after playing almost every weekend.

Yeah, I also own a Tokyo Marui Thompson and a WE1911. I have had my Tommy for 2+ years, and I've had no problems at all. The WE is a nice gas pistol, but I have only had her since Christmas so I can't say how it is in the long run. The CYMA M1A1 is a good gun, but I can guarentee that a TM will outlast a CYMA. If you have the money I'd highly suggest getting the TM version, or selling the CYMA down the road.

Stock that is true, but overall, i believe the Cyma will have a lower total cost of ownership though. This is because the Cyma is half the price (or less) and with that, you can replace the entire gearbox with very high quality parts, when the original parts break (and they last a very long time in the interim). Also, the Cyma has fixed the barrel breaking issue to some degree, and the barrel can break even without slings, if you were to, for example, trip and fall and hit the barrel on a rock.

I ended up replaceing all of my internals with TM. Honestly, I would have started out with the TM had I known better but I didn't. I knew nothing about airsoft and just bought it becuase I saw it in a big 5 ad and thought it was cool. But it has been a great airsoft gun over the last two years. When I desided to upgrade it I desided to start with a TM gearbox so I replaced all in internals with TM and upgrade parts. I bought a second cyma thompson for my girlfriend about a week after I got mine and it's still kickin' after two years of playing almost every weekend... It's a good buy.

aside from getting something brand new, keep an eye out on the market part of the board as well as ebay, people are letting stuff go for super cheap right now due to the economy, could probly pick something good up in your price range, cheers.. -Eddie

savoy6: anyone know if anyone still carries the enfield?

Dracul: I think Redwolf has a Enfield. If not or not longer, then not until G&G releases theirs. The old gas Iron Airsoft brand SMLE isn't carried by anyone anymore and was such piece of crap. Not worth trying to track one down.

ajman: I don't think there's gonna be anything in northern New England anytime soon, and as far as I know there hasn't been in a while, but if you're willing to drive to Connecticut there's usually some decent sized battles a couple times a year.
