In honor of the D-Day invasion of June 6th 1944 we will be re-creating "Hold until relieved, The British 6th Airborne and the Capture of Pegasus Bridge June 5th/6th 1944 and the Battle for Omaha Beach"
Pegasus was the name given to a bridge over the Caen canal, near the town of Ouistreham. The bridge, also known as the Bénouville Bridge after the neighbouring village, was a major objective of the British 6th Airborne Division, which was landed units by glider near it during the Normandy Invasion on the 5th/6 June 1944. It was given the permanent name of Pegasus Bridge in honour of the operation.
The main objective of capturing Pegasus Bridge was to secure the eastern flank of the invasion, preventing a counter attack from rolling up the entire invasion force. The eastern flank was defined by the River Orne and the Caen Canal, and Pegasus Bridge, together with the neighouring Horsa Bridge, were the only bridges in the immediate vicinity of the invasion area to cross these features, and so their successful capture would secure the eastern flank.
The initial assault was carried out by 181 soldiers -- four platoons of D and two of B Companies, 2nd Ox & Bucks -- in six Horsa gliders, led by Major John Howard. The operation is frequently referred to as Operation Coup de Main, although since coup-de-main is a term frequently used for a swift pre-emptive strike it is not clear if this is a description or an official codename.
Omaha Beach was the most hotly contested of all the beaches on D-Day! The official record stated that "within 10 minutes of the ramps being lowered, [the leading] company had become inert, leaderless and almost incapable of action. Every officer and sergeant had been killed or wounded. It had become a struggle for survival and rescue". At one point, even Omar Bradley considered abandoning the beachhead! American casualties at Omaha on D-Day numbered around 5,000 out of 50,000 men, most in the first few hours, while the Germans suffered 1,200 killed, wounded or missing.
[/b] Some American troops will need to sim Brits on Friday night and Sunday so please look for a Red or Maroon Beret. Thanks!
Germans have it a little easier since WW2 German uniforms are hard to come by and are expensive. For those who do have German uniforms wear them!
For those who do not you may use the following...
Woodland modern German Flectarn, Splinter type BDU's, Russian camo BDU's or U.S. Woodland. Again use any type Boot.
For more on what uniforms you can use and where to get them see here....

Rules for weapons etc...
Germans:
Will have 3 slots available to sim MG42 Machineguns these will require a two man team to move and setup, while moving the gun neither the gunner nor his helper may fire, only when placed may both players fire theier weapons. Prefer the use of M60's or M249's to sim the heavy machineguns!!! If not available then use a weapon that has a boxmag, Those with M249's or M60's will get priority for these positions!!! As you can see in the pic below, this was not a gun you could fire on the move, belt mags, along with the cumbersome nature of the gun and it's rate of fire made this impossible, (Yes I know "Rambo" fired an M60 in first blood, but in actual use imagine the skin of you arm being ripped apart by the belt as you fired the gun, better yet imagine it literally tearing your arm off!!)
4 germans may sim MP40's and fire full auto. (Saturday game will allow this number to be increased to 6 to sim SS infantry support using StG 44's) May use MP5's or AK47 with the simulated Wood, no black plastic AK's
Tanks: You may field 2 tanks for the night game 3 during saturday's game, see rules for these below....
M203 grenade launchers, Germans may field 4 of these to sim Panzerschreck or Panzerfaust anti tank weapons, must fire nerf rockets or similar.
All other germans must fire semi auto ONLY!!! This is to sim using Kar98 bolt action guns (Note: You will need a Bolt action rifle or M14, and will only be allowed to shoot M14's in semi-auto only)
British Paras:Friday night and Sunday
3 slots for Bren Gun operators, the rules for these guns will be a bit different, the Bren used a Magazine placed in a breach on top of the gun so a M249 may be used with an M4 clip, or an RPK with highcap AK mag no box/Drum mag, while a second man will be needed to sim carrying the extra ammo, the bren gun operator may fire while moving, usually the strongest soldier in a squad issued these guns carried it and could use it while moving, he wouldnt be extrmemly accurate with it but it could be done, my Father was His section's Bren Gun operator during "Market Garden".
8 British paras will get to sim using Sten guns or Thompsons and will be allowed full auto capability. The AK47SU can sim a Sten gun. That is the very short stubby AK with the folding stock!
All other British troops will fire semi-auto ONLY!!! This is to sim the use of Enfield bolt action rifles. (Note: You will need a Bolt action rifle or M14, and will only be allowed to shoot M14's in semi-auto only)
Tanks: You may field 4 tanks during the Sunday game, to sim reinforcements finally arriving from the beachs.
M203 grenade launchers: Brits may field 4 , these will sim the P.I.A.T. anti tank/anti personel weapon described above.
Omaha Beach Saturday:
Germans may field up to 5 Heavy Machine guns, same rules apply for movement.
Germans may only have 3 MP 40/ StG44 auto weapons (Same rules, AK47's with real or simulated wood, and MP-5's to simulate the period weapons)
Germans may have 3 rocket launchers simulating Mortars! Indirect fire only.
Americans may field 5 Thompson gunners for auto weapons.
Americans may have 3 rocket launchers simulating offshore bombardment (They get Extra Ammo capacity however, they may not come onshore and must stay in designated positions on the field)
Tank rules....
Kills
Tanks/APC can only be destroyed by a direct hit anywhere on the vehicle with a nerf rocket or use hand grenades put thru open hatchs or port holes.
Slowing advance
Tanks can be slowed by shooting at the feet of drivers. (however drivers cannot be killed by this type of fire)
HULKS
Destroyed tanks must be left on the field with red-flag marking a destroyed hulk... destroyed tanks "CANNOT" be reused by enemy once knocked out. Tank will remain out-of-action until the next game round.
Main-Armament
Cannons must use off-the-shelf launchers approved for airsoft gaming only
(Ie M203 or CO2 typed propelled launchers that fire mini Nerf rockets or bb showers)
This is what one Romper-Room tank looks like, from the Iwo Jima op they are made from a PVC frame and can be covered with Tarp, or Cardboard or any strong fabric....
Note there is a hole cut in the bottom so you can walk the tank around!!!
