I just wanted to say thanks to all the WWII AA members who made it to JTD. We had a fantastic weekend and we hope you all made it home safe. Thanks to all of you who made it such a memorable event! It's the players that make it so good. We'll post links to pics and AARs as they start to roll in.

I'd like to likewise echo my congratualtions to the participants who came from all over the country to the event. We know how much prescious time and expense it requires for the out of towners and local folks and hope the event lived up to expectations. The weather again did an amazing job of replicating June 5th and 6th from 65 years ago and indeed as you slogged through the cold wet grass all evening I'm sure several of you wished Ike had not decided to go that night.
The flares, distant fire, smell of cordite and shadowy figures moving through the darkness and sounds of the aircraft along with the tremendous turnout and incredible impressions made for a great weekend. Camp scenes and training were the best ever although maybe a little ambitious as there didn't seem to be quite enough personal time. The Germans as always looked scary good and it was great seeing so many cool vehicles.
I can't wait to see pictures and read everyones AARs.

I love the third photo. Wide expanse like a mountainous region in France or the USSR. But what is really cool are the haircuts on the second and third soldiers. The truck looks great and I love that converted ppsh. Good photos Ritter. Hope you and Rekkon represented the 3rd Panzergrenadier with valor and honor.

Great looking impressions! Wish I could have made it but my current "life situation" (i.e. 18 month old boy) won't allow long trips for a bit longer. Hope to see some of you boys in Big Lake MN!

Jump to Destiny was one the best WWII Airsoft/Blankfire Reenactments that I have attended in my 18 years of reenacting WWII German Paratroopers!
I was a Squad Leader and at times acting Platoon Sergeant for the Fallschirmjaeger Unit. It was nice to see Units being led by competent leaders at this event, rather than being surrounded by Officers and NCOs who were just wearing the rank because they bought it! The realism brought by everyone's positive attitudes was fantastic!
I commend "The War Dept." for their professionalism and fantastic production of this event. Any problems that arose were quickly managed and the event continued seamlessly, usually without the participant's knowledge of any problem.
I heard many participants comment, "This is how a WWII Reenactment should be!" and it was!
Members of FJR 5 had many "moments" where we really couldn't tell if we were in Normandie 1944 or not! The "total immersion" of this event allowed every participant to take himself to the edge, and experience how WWII soldiers trained, lived, and fought.
If you want to join the FJs for next year's event, contact myself or the Unit Leader of 15. Komp. / FJR 6 (Greg Hamilton), who we fell in with as part of our "Super Regiment".
More will be written about JTD, but to sum it up, this is now a mandatory event for our Unit and we will promote 100% attendance at it!

It is extremely hard to attack prepared positions and not every unit in the 82nd won every engagement. From a tactical perspective this wasn't our year but the US managed to knock out the AA gun positions and insured that the glider landing fields were free of obstructions. They also succeeded in mining the main route into the drop zones so most of the key objectives were accomplished. The Partisans also succeeded in accomplishing their objectives though once caught at the SS camp they paid a dear price.

Herr Ritter performed outstandingly and is always welcome back to fall in with the 272 Infanterie Division. The Heer easily got 10 to 15 kills for every casualty. In one engagement Ritter and I together knocked out at least a dozen or more guys before getting away unscathed.

Good to know our 3rd Pzgr Soldats performed well on loan to the 272nd. But no, you can't keep him ;D

Wow - It looks like I missed a great one. I heard the weather was horrible but that just adds to memories if you make it through the event. Hopefully next year I won't have a work conflict. Congrats to all who gave it their all.

It was the first official event put on by the War Department ( a non profit) www.thewardept.org and while we've all been involved with a number of events, this was by far the most ambitious and the first time we had all staffed together. By in large it was a smashing success. We learned a great deal and have numerous significant enhgancements and tweaks in mind for next year. We'll take steps to further insure that all elements get additional opportunities for tactical interaction with their opposition and we'll create additional "scenes" for all elements. You can never insure absolute uniformity in experiences but we know we can make some simple tweaks to create greater consistency of experience. This year some units (especially the German elements) had widely varied opportunities for clashes. Simple fixes. Now that I've caught up on sleep and cleaned up all the gear, I can't wait for next year.

Some necro-posting here, but how did you gents run Jump to Destiny? As a 24-72 hour long tactical? Or was it several games paced over the course of three days?
