After a search of this site for any thing that mentioned Ohio, I noticed one thing. There doesn't seem to be any teams/ units here in the Buckeye state. Am I wrong? I told the search to go back 500 days and still I got nothing. Is there just no interest here? Is this something that I might try to organize myself? I am really interested in doing this for airsoft, but I'm not going to commit if I am one of a handful doing it in Ohio. If I am wrong, please correct me. I'd love to be the first to say I'm wrong! ;D

In the WW2AA there was discussion in the bylaws about what constituted a unit. I believe you had to have at least three members before the WW2AA would recognize you not just as a WW2 airsofter but as being part of a unit. There was no attempt to start a list of WW2 airsoft units that exist but they are scattered about here and there.
Some information can be gleaned by looking at the recruiting threads.
Unfortunately, your assumption about Ohio is probably correct. There was one kid who had a unit down in your State and I think it was the 3rd ID (US) but I really don't see them at events. Many of the people who post on these boards aren't really part of formalized units but those that are belong to a small number of units spread thruout the country. If you're out East there is an airborne unit and a Fallschirmjaeger unit. If you're out west in Washington State they have a fallschirmjaeger unit and an American airborne unit. Pennsylvania is in the fledgling stages of trying to organize an SS unit. In the Illinois area you have a small SS unit and some airborne. There are games down South but I'm not sure what units are down there in size. In the Midwest (Wisconsin/Illinois/Minnesota) there is MOA, Midwest Ostfront Association. MOA (www.ostfrontairsoft.com) has a German Heer unit (3rd Panzergrenadier Division) with 14 members, the Russian 198th Mechanized Division, 15-20 members, and the US 2nd Ranger Bn. (4 members). They also have a varying forcepool of partisan players who eventually choose one of the above three teams. Perhaps others on this board can enlighten you about their teams if they are out there because I may not know about them. Our members sometimes travel thruout the country just to get in trigger time although we're holding 6-8 events a year now in our area.
Good luck on your search for a unit.

Thanks for the insight. I wasn't finding too much for Ohio and it made me worry a bit. Ohio has tons of teams, but they are all "modern" warfare units. The recruiting threads were useful, but once I saw no one from my state I wrote this current thread. I'll keep an eye out for something and I appreciate the help.

How far are you from the midwest guys aintthatgarand? I don’t know about other WW2 Airsofters, but we only get to do about two to four nice large games here out east every year. It isn’t like the modern Airsoft games, where you do a backyard pickup game. We camp, we set up guard duties etc. Though, I will admit I go to modern Airsoft games in my WW2 gear to try and recruit more guys into WW2 Airsoft.

Depends on where the Midwest guys are located. I'm an hour west of Columbus, 1/2 hour north of Dayton, and 2 hours from Indianapolis. I have been playing mostly on private land. We get any where from 20 to 30 people playing at one time. I get the concept of the 2 to 4 large games per year. That sounds like fun. As a husband and a father of four, I find that to be a large devotion of money for impression/gear that is to be used so sparingly. This of course is my opinion. I like to play once or twice a month. If I don't go at least one time in 30 days, I feel like I'm letting my equipment go to waste. Maybe I should buy the gear, go to the fields around here, and see who wants to come along with me. Maybe I can be the one to start a unit in Ohio. After all, this web site started with some ones idea, right? I'll put the word out and see who is interested. Thanks!

Yeah, that is a good idea too! If people see people doing it. See what it is like. See the gear etc... you might entice more people to join. That is what we are doing out East. I play every other week in pick up games in my WW2 gear. But... for ww2 games... I go to two to four a year. So yes! Get the use out of your gear, use it! But don't be afraid to use it with the modern guys. Often, the WW2 guns out perform the modern model clone guns anyway.

Sounds like a possible plan. Kinda want to do this in honor of my grandfather, you know. Wear his patches, carry his rifle, etc. Plus, the gear is just way too cool. I'm burnt out on all the M4s and G36s on the field now. This would be a great way to stand out and do my own thing. If I can give other airsofters like myself a way to reenact WWII, even better.

A friend of mine, Godo, is active on this board and located in Ohio. He is working to put together a US unit, so if he does not reply in your thread here within a couple days, shoot him a PM.

Hey bud!
You planning on going to the next Springfield Op? Meet me there and we'll talk.
PM me and we can discuss details. I'd like to start a US infantry unit here. There are others who do blank fire and Vietnam airsoft that regularly attend Springfield events. I bet we can wrangle them into it too.
PS- I live in Columbus.

Just remember, building a unit takes time and patience. The most important part is to have access to or to own land so that you have a regular place to play. Next up is to have an opponent. It won't do you any good to slowly build a team unless you guys/gals have someone to play with. You'll grow slow and you'll lose people and then gain people. The important part is to cultivate and to keep your best and most committed members.

1) Rekkon, where are you located?
2) Godo, I will shoot you a PM in the next 5 to 10 minutes. We need to talk.
3) I posted some info about this on the Airsoft Ohio forums and got pretty much a huge no. No one wants to shell out money to put together their impression and they find the lack of choices in weapons to be a limiting factor as well. Every one wants to do Nam style impressions or modern because it allows for more weapons and an easier time getting their hands on gear.
That's where Ohio stands on this issue(from my limited sampling on the AO forum!).
