So after days of debating with myself, I have decided to attempt an M14 to M1 Garand Conversion. I have collected almost all the money necessary, about 12$ short right now, but i think i will get started. First I am purchasing the CYMA M14 from Airsplat, hoping my good luck with their shipments continues . Next I am ordering the M1 Garand parts From SARCO, a site that many of you have used I see. The parts are i believe- GRD109 Front Sight $10.50 GRD110 Front Sight Screw $1.25 GRD096 Gas Cylinder (Serviceable) $50.00 GRD100 Gas Cylinder Lock (Used) $12.00 GRD104 Gas Cylinder Lock Screw Late (Used) $12.50 GRD051 Handguard Walnut w/metal, new - Front & Rear Set $32.95 That makes $129.7 Props to Seff (quoted directly from hope he doesnt mind Then I will be using the same instructions as SgtTom, unless anyone has an better instruction sets. www.ontarioairsoftwwiireenactors.com/PDFs/Upgrades/M14_to_a_M1_Garand.pdfI intend to go all the way through with this project, and if it happens to fail I will try again . Tips and help would be much appreciated, especially from some of the more successful people i have seen here on the forums. If he see anything I may have missed please point it out. Thanks, Canning.

There are some worthwhile tips regarding significant enhancements in the numerous M1 Garand conversion threads. The fellow up in Canada copied my initial conversion many many years ago but there are several things being done now that add to the authenticity and end product. Good luck with the conversion! I'm confident you'll be pleased with your end result.

Thanks 2nd Bat, yeah my goal is to get mine as close to yours as possible. So i will be doing those extra steps like "bondoing" and all that good stuff. Thanks for the encouragement, I am hoping to order the parts today and maybe even get started this weekend. My goal is to have the whole project completed by early August, for the next event in the Northeast. Thanks again.

They have Gas Cylinders here for $30. It would give you the $12 you are short on. www.dupagetrading.com/m1-parts/gas-cylinders.html The instructions like 2nd Bat said are ok but a little out dated. A few things I did differently on mine are I didn't shorten the Handguard and because I didn't shorten it, I had to extend the barrel. I also made the bolt rod longer for a better fuctioning and looking bolt. I would try to ebay the Gas Cylinder lock and screw before I bought them for Dupage but its your choice.

Thanks sgttom I will look at that. Did you finish yours? I haven't had a chance to read your entire thread, just the first 3 pages. Thanks for the help again. Ordering most if not all of the parts tonight.
Another question, what type of paint and finish would be the best to achieve the most realistic affect (effect if im wrong. Sorry not the best speller) on my M1?

I Never finished it. I posted some pictures of my work in the progress but I still haven't finished it. I quit for a while and got busy making a Kar98. I have been working on it recently and am nearly done. Its kind of unmotivating as my M14 is broke lol. Well about the finishes their are three main types I've seen. A blued type finish, A light gray or greenish gray finish, and a flat black finish. I am going for the Grey finish and my brother the blue. I am not really fond of flat black. Look over this site it has a ton of photos. www.m1garand.net/M1Pics/index.htm

Well if I start getting some sales on my Kar98's I will soon have enough for a new one. I got both guns used on ebay and I think they were broke when we got them though. By the time we realized it, It was too late. Well it was my first decent gun live and learn.

Yeah bad luck there. K98's huh I am going to go check those out. Any estimate for how long the entire conversion will take? I would be going slowly as it is my first conversion and I want to make it as good as possible.

The M1 Garand conversion? I could make one, not including bondo, in a week. Its a fairly simple conversion. You shorten the stock, cut grooves for the hand guards, cut grooves for the gas cylinder, drill a hole for the barrel, sand off the scope mounts and done! I am no one to talk though as I started it last November and haven't finished it yet. Doing the bondo is the hardest part. I haven't finished it yet, because sanding the bondo and wood is a real pain, and I am avoiding it lol. The thing that takes long for me is figuring out what to do, how to do it and buying parts such as paint, dremel pieces etc.... I can't drive so I have to wait till my parents have time so it takes a while. Now that I know what to do and where to buy things its simple. I am guessing you could finish it in about 3 weeks if you stuck too it. If you have any questions or need pics of anything PM me.

I finished mine recently and did a few things differently from what sgttom did/plans to do - have a look through the M1 conversion overview thread for pictures, and feel free to ask or comment.

So airsplat decided not to tell me the item was out of stock until after i payed for it. So no M14 right now. Everywhere i look the CYMA version is sold out. What would be the next best option performance wise?
How is the JG AGM M14? that looks like the next one i would consider.

AGMs are pretty expensive for his budget though. No on Airsplat there $99 $10 cheaper then the CYMA. On most China, Hong Kong sites there $89. On US sites there around $125.00.

I would like to stick with the CYMA but in the interest of finishing this project in the window of when school ends and begins, I need to find a suitable replacement as the CYMA is sold out everywhere. Im going to be ordering from Hitguns.com as i do not trust any of the Chinese companies due to bad experiences reported by friends.

Yes it would work, you'd just need to get a longer outer barrel.

Ok just ordered the AGM M14. When it gets here first I will test it then I will order the M1 parts just in case the M14 does not work and i am left with M1 parts and no base weapon.

The reason there aren't any Cyma M14's around is that their factory was raided, leading to the loss of several of the molds for guns like the M14 and the Thompson. They have plans to recreate the M14 mold, but not the Thompson mold.

The AGM M14 (Full length version) is your next best choice. You will however have to reverse the cross wired electrical plugs if you intend to use it with any battery other than the crappy one that comes with it. (Highly recommended)
Airsplat continues to advertise the CYMA products on their site, with ads also on ebay even though in fact they don't have them. Very frustrating. I ordered a bunch only to stall a build three additional weeks while things got sorted out.
