If you are thrifty you can make the M1 Garand for $200. The Springfield should cost around the same. For the Springfield I'd try getting all the parts off eBay. For the Garand I'd get all of it off eBay except the handguards which I'd get from Sarco. www.sarcoinc.com/rifles.htmlBoth conversion are a long venture especially if its your first try at an airsoft conversion.

Sgt. Tom is right you would probaly have to buy a replica or buy all the parts of ebay.

I say buy one from Tommygunner or 2nd Bat. Lets support the techs who have done the work already. You have to see how great the ones they make look up close. I'm sold!

Not everyone has $500 to spend on an airsoft gun, they both make great guns and I'm glad to hear someone is going to attempt a conversion.

The quickest route is to buy a already done conversion from one of the board members which will run you around $500 The second quickest route is to buy all the parts from Sarco which will run you around $300 The slowest way is to buy all the parts on eBay which will run you around $200 When making my M1 Garand I bought the handguards from Sarco and the rest off ebay and the conversion ran me about $200. It didn't take me to long to buy the stuff off ebay however you have to be patient and keep your bids low. Its hard not to give in and bid higher after you've lost numerous times but if you want to keep the costs low its the only way to go. Check out this eBay seller. stores.shop.ebay.com/Heddonpals-Gun-Parts__W0QQ_armrsZ1He is really great with 100.0% good feedback. I bought all my M1 parts from him which saved me shipping. I got my Gas Cylinder, gas lock, and front sight for $40.00 Gas Cylinder and Sight $25.00 Gas Lock and Screw $10.00 shipping $5.00 total: $40.00 I got the Gas cylinder screw from a gun show for $10. So over all I did pretty good in my opinion. A lot of people don't have the time or patient for this though. ~Sgttom

Which can mean, if you decide to make it yourself rather than buy a already made one, you end up going over what you paid originally, in repairs. Not doubting your skills, just saying you risk messing it up. Where buying already made one from TG or 2ndbat is gonna save you mess up costs, labor and headaches. Choose which ever you want though.

I don't know about repairs I haven't messed up on any of mine but yea it takes a lot of time and labor. If your a kid though time isn't usually that big of a problem.

Hmmmmm Sgttom your rifle is shooting how well?
Forgive me for the comment if you've finally got yours functioning (over a year since you started in on the project)
There are a lot of do it yourself conversions that have worked out very, very well indeed and Sgttom has done a commendable job on his conversion. I thinks it's fair warning to suggest that the project, though time consuming, is not terribly hard, however for everyone one attempted about a third never get done or in the process of completing the conversion, cease to function as an effective AEG which is the whole point (I think?)
I hate seeing folks inverst hard earned money in a project that they aren't confident they will complete. If you're unsure after reviewing all the tips and suggestions or if you're in a hurry to get it done you probably shouldn't take it on.
If you're confident in your abilities or have help you can rely on it's a great project and very rewarding. I love the fact that there are literally hundreds and hundreds of these out there but it breaks my heart to know there are also many many dozens sitting around undone that may never get finished.

Well I wasn't really referring to the M14 internals, just the outside work. However up to this point where I have finally figured out the problem I thought the M14's I bought came broken. However I found out just today what is the problem and it is indeed my fault. I threw a small spring away which pushed on the hop up bucking and that's why my gun hasn't worked. So to all planning on doing the conversion, Don't throw anything away until after you've finished the coversion and tested the gun various times. Even if it seems irrelevant to the gun don't dump it.
