Another 506th unit,yay.
As much as I'd like to discourage yet another American airborne unit, there were others in the War besides the 506th PIR. In the 101st you had:
501st 502nd 327th GIR. (Nobody seems to do glider units for some unknown reason.)
82nd: 504th 505th 508th 325th GIR.
13th Abn. Div 515th 517th 189th GIR 190th GIR
17th Abn. Div.:
507th 513th 193rd GIR 194th GIR.
I guess the reason nobody does the glider units,is that they don't wear that uber sexy jump uniform or jump boots that the PIR's wear.
So there are a bunch of ideas for anyone who wants something diferent than the OVERUSED 506th. Hell,I was in the 101st and I don't even do that impression due to the overabundance of wannabes out there. Hell, I'm no fan of the 82nd, and last time I checked, they did a lot more than the 101st during the War.
Use some imagination people.

just a heads up i don't have a specific unit impression its just 101st. I never said what percise unit i chose to go for. I did an airborne because I like how the jump uniform is made and looks. were still starting small out here in western pa so i figured if I just did an airborne load out and my buddy does a infantry load out that we cover more impressions out here to possible get more people into the ww2 airsoft scene. As i said in an earlier post we don't have a unit or a specific impression because we want to get as many airsofters in our community to accept and try out the ww2 impression games. We know we have a long long road in front of us and we are trying to encourage our community to hopefully get a large quantity of players to get uniforms. On that note I was in the marine infantry but you don't see me doing a ww2 marine load out quite yet because we know in our community if we potrayed uniforms you see in popular movies like band of brother and saving pvt ryan it might increase popularity.
Thank you

Fusilier i started out 506 because my dad had books on the 506th and i loved them when i was young. Idk about the glider infantry but that does attravt my attention. and isn't the only difference from PIR from GIR is that the GIR wore leggings? Nuke0070 and I are just looking for ANY WWII airsofters because there is only a handful of WWII airsofters in Western PA and as of now i have no form of transportation to 2or even 3 Hr rides to airsoft places.

The glider units looked and dressed as regular infantry. No jump boots or jump uniform. In fact, the 327th came ashore in landing craft on D-Day due to lack of gliders! But they did have the card insignia on their helmets like all 101st regiments. The 327th insignia was the "club". Its not as "sexy" as the PIR's,but a very unique impression that is VERY underrepresented in the reenacting community.

Which is too bad becuase in a lot of ways I those guys had it a lot worse then the PIRs. Those gliders must have been scary as hell. I think as a general rule you should not go to war in anything made of plywood.

You couldn't pay me enough to get in one of those! VERY small, very cramped! And those guys didn't get any extra pay like paratroopers did!

I think as a general rule you should not go to war in anything made of plywood. With one exception, at least in the air that is, being the De Havilland Mosquito. It was made almost entirely out of wood, including plywood and balsa wood. Even though it had only two engines it could carry the same 1.8 ton bomb load as B-17's could on long range missions, like to Berlin. With more accuracy than the B-17 too. The B-17 could carry 5 tons max bomb loads, but on long missions that had to be reduced. The Mosquito had the lowest loss rate of any Allied bomber of WW2 and the highest accuracy rate. If I had to go through WW2 in any aircarft it would have been in a Mosquito ;D

Not as much as paratroopers.
