Has anyone tried to do US Navy? I'm a former sailor and might try it out for my first impression. But correct me if I'm wrong(mostly didn't study Navy history) but I believe the Navy was issued 1903 Springfields. If so, what year did they start getting the M1?
When I was in(regular Navy) I was still being issued the M-14(got out in 93) so going by the Navy standard of not staying up to general issue, would the M1 not be issued til late 45? Sorry if wrong thread...

Saw that, where's your dutybelt and spats? And they used the "right arm" rates back then. The three red stripes show your an E-3 engineer. So you would be holding a firehose not a weapon. You should be wearing working blues with spats, dutybelt with .45 or .38 shotgun is also issue. But its the "long arm" is my main question.

Yes very good job. And a great way to honor your grandfather. Really you can put the white spats(am I spelling that right) and a white dutybelt with white double .45 pouch and of course the .45 holster and you'll be getting there.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the Navy used the same color khaki gear as us, the only time white gear was used by anyone was in special parades, funerals, and sometimes MP's.
Mods you can delete this.

Whites are the dress uniform of the day in Hawaii, almost year round. And most shipboard enlisted wore dungaree's. But yes the non-duty gear was khaki. AS for the use of the word duty, I'm meaning watch standing and SP and other non-working(read physical getting dirty) events that called for the standard working uniform(dungaree's).

Hey one thing for you with your USMC impression, loose the leggings, the USMC hated them, in the Jungles hey helped give them jungle rot and major trench foot and on Islands like Iwo and Tarawa the sand would just get in there and chafe. They only wore them during landings to keep the water out then took them off.

Awesome. Looks like you smelled something funny in the first picture lol. Only thing I'd say is, from the looks of the picture, change your legging laces, in the picture they look black. I think most of the big vendors sell legging laces. Keep up the good work!

Damn....I really need to get pics of my USMC impression up too.
Anyway, since you said your impression is for Tarawa the leggings are correct, for campagns like that they kept them on when they landed. Also consider getting a pair of Khaki suspenders. I know your gonna use the Haversack instead of the OD suspenders you have now, but that haversack can get tough on the back and reqular suspenders would be a good idea.
I do have to say though, I really like you impression its coming along great and when you get that 5cell pouch and the haversack youll look great, doing the USMC proud.
Also consider getting one or two more canteens, they carried as much water as possible. Oh and get yourself a K-Bar fighting knife too, that always looks good in a USMC impression. also get an ATF repro 1942 style Musset bag (not the kind with the eyelets on it)

ive got the musset bag and kabar already, ive got two canteens which is plenty for me. the od suspenders are around that area and i got them for free and khaki are like 30-40 so im not worried. i have my .45 also but not in the pics. i have off duty garrison look to, with the greens and green overcoat. i just procured an original haversack from a kid whos uncle was a marine. i dont really like using it honestly.

Fantastic then glad to hear you have all of that already and it sounds like you ahead of the ball. Its also great to see another Marine, were extreamly underrepresented. I honestly dont use my Haversack either its 42 dated but its simply a pain. Question have you got an M1910 entrenchment tool yet? Also we have an unoficiall unit we started here in Chicago the 3rd Marine Division, we could always use more Marines, especially ones with correct gear set up. The unit consists of myself, Tanker44, and possibly a member of the 70th Tank battalion. Also Guitarmaster you invited to join too, just get more gear soldier. ;D TommyGunner

At the Front is a ripoff for Japanese gear. Stewart's Military Antiques sells the exact same things for way cheaper (there is only one manufacturer for the most common rero Japanese stuff which both Stewarts and ATF are both supplied by, yet ATF is more expensive...boggles the mind). But yeah for more info on a Japanese impression check out my website. ija2ndsendai.kk5.org/ I'm going to try and post more stuff on where to get more stuff for the impression later this week.

Very cool Go for broke. Nice to see some variety for impressions and units. My recommendation based on what little I know is that your impressions belong in the stitch nazi section! They look pretty good to me.
