hello all,
i just made an account for this website so i might be posting this to the wrong place... but anyway I recently bought a tsd m14 (spring) and i've lately been trying to make it into an m1 garand. i've looked at a bunch of other forums but i can't really see how to get the magazine right. i've seen pictures of shortened magazines, but not how to make them. Now i know springers aren't really worth the effort of aegs, but the magazine is the only thing i have left to do. so i'm wondering if anyone knows any way to make a magazine that looks decent enough (doesn't have to be perfect or even close to perfect) and is easy to make. Also, if you know of any place to buy a clip that works or kinda works that would be great too

I doubt if the feed arrangement on the TSD springer M14 is the same as the AEG Marui and Marui clones. Hence the shorty shotgun clips may not work. Also the final shotgun clip you alude to is not the correct one as it is far too long. You need the less common flush mounted clips that are shown in the earlier thread. Again those may not work in the springer as I have never tried doing a conversion out of one of them.

I already had a mid-cap shotgun mag on hand (its from a Remington springer) so i tried it out on the M14... the first shot is almost always a misfire but other than that it's worked pretty well. Not sure yet how I'm gonna shorten it, but once i figure that part out i think it will work pretty well. So far for my conversion I've been using this site... www.airsoftforum.com/board/lofiversion/index.php/t119797.html So i guess now the choice is between converting the m14 mag or the shotgun mag. Any suggestions?

In case any of you were wondering, contact paper with a wooden pattern works very well if you don't have the time/effort to paint your m14. A roll of it is around $3 at Ace. I'll post some pics of it tomorrow...

OK so I've actually decided to paint my gun. I know there are articles saying how, but I'm a bit rushed right now. I know I need brown paint and black stain, but is there anything else I should be aware of? Like maybe something to protect the finish, etc.

Odds are, If you're too rushed to do the research you're probably too rushed to do it well.
I recommend you use a rasp or large grit sand papaer and rough up the surface using long straight strokes to create tiny grain lines in the plastic. Then apply a coat of an appropriate brown acrylic paint using a rag to apply it. Rub it in until it looks right to you. I recommend burnt umber, coffee or someother dark brown stain. Once dry apply a thin wash of black again rubbing it in to the desired finish. Once that's dry and you're pleased with the look (If not wash it all off and start over) Spray a dull coat laminant finish to protect the work from the elements. Available at craft shops or hobby stores. Good luck and have fun with it.

Thanks for the info, it really helps! Luckily I'm only rushed to get the supplies, after that I'll have all the time in the world to get it done. Today was the only day I could get the stuff so I needed a guide real quick. Thank you!
