Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I have been reading through the treads for awhile. I was wondering if there was a Marines unit located in (or around) Central New Jersey. I would rather be in a Marines unit than a Rangers unit, because my Grandfather was a Marine in the south pacific.

I could also settle for units in bordering states, such as New York or PA. Any help or knowledge would be appreciated.

Or maybe the 5th Rangers. Any Battalion the fought in the Pacific would be fine.

Unfortunately I have learned that due to Jersey's climate, there are no USMC units nearby. But I have learned about a 3rd infantry division nearby, which I have decided to join. Oh well, that's life.

There aren't a lot of USMC units out there, mostly I guess becuase there are NO japanese to fight... ha ha.
My 502nd group does a USMC impression as well during the summer time. It's more of a secondary impression for hot weather.
You can still do a USMC impression to honor your grandfather even if you don't have a unit. Just a thought.

But I want to try to replicate the uniform He wore, but the only reference I have is a photo of him on Okinawa. It looks like He's wearing a M43 style jacket, but with no bottom pockets.

does it look like it's missing a pocket on the right side? If so then it must be a p41 jacket which the marines wore. correct me if i'm wrong, cause that's the only thing i can think of. (not a marine expert)

I'll bet if you scan that photo and post it on this site the uniform and gear will be identified for you really fast....

(not a marine expert) No, both pockets are there. It doesn't have USMC stenciled on it. I'll try to scan it later tonight (front and back(on the back theirs some faded print that I can't read))

Looks like a match! The only reason I thought it was a M43 was the pointed pockets.
