I have yet to hear of a PTO airsoft event being held, so I want to know how many people would actually like to attend one (no I'm NOT going to host one, I'm just asking.) I know the biggest factor of why one hasn't been held is probably because there are virtially no Japanese impressions.

Because there is no affordable Jap weapons. And a shortage of Japanese to play. The kits are out there. They reproduce everything. The stuff looks great. But it looks really silly seeing some fat or tall white guy wearing it.

Oct 3-4 2009 Operation Cyclone Hmmmmm I am betting some people ass cheeks are pursing up right about...now. there is one complete uniform front row in chair both tall and fat. He is also holding an AK. I am in the back with a goatee. Only good part of my impression is the repro hat. I plan on adding the rest but couldn't get it before this game. Yes a bunch of freaking long hairs involved here. The US Side. At least 3 awesome impressions mostly in the back row. Some good hodgepodge going on but plenty of farb o licious. Do you have any idea how hard it was to get 20 people to play a PTO game. Our normal ETO games have much better uniforms percentage good/farb and attendence is normally around 60-80 players.

Damn Japs are sneaky I don't see em anywhere? that seems the hardest part getting people to do Japanese roles. I do admire the dedication of people laying face down into the mud though.

We found one.... I imagine it's very hard to find Japanese players, as I've never even seen a place to buy Japanese gear, uniforms, let alone guns. The few Japanese things I've seen are not cheap at all. It would be really awesome to see PTO event get off the ground.

annnnnd we have a winner. I applaud your efforts on putting together an awesome PTO airsoft event and bow to them. They are obviously superior. It is always telling and amusing how those who produce nothing have the most to say about people that produce anything.

It does look crazy farbastic but I don't think anyone here could have done much better. There just isn't that much interest and what a lot of people don't get is you have to start at the beginning before you get to the end, if you get what I mean.

We canceled twice before because we couldn't get but 2-3 people to play Japanese. You are right you have to start somewhere. Hopefully like the ETO games the quality of the uniforms will go up but PTO is a hard sell for some reason.
I also mentioned that it was farb-o-licious when I posted it. If we went with only good impressions then it would have been 4 US against 1 Japanese and if you add that you had to have an autentic weapon you would have had 4 US guys chasing themselves around the field.

I voted no, not because I don't have interest in the history of the PTO, but because a bunch of white guys running around dressed like soldiers of Imperial Japan is just too much for me. Big kudos to those who are willing to do this, but I have zero interest in putting together an American or Japanese impression.
I wonder if HBO's new series will result in more interest?

I would LOVE to see an East coat PTO group, but I am a member of the 3rd infantry. Is there a rule against being in two units?

It is always telling and amusing how those who produce nothing have the most to say about people that produce anything. >> Umm, I would rather do nothing, than a not so good impression/event, just because I WANTED to do it. No offense of course. Also, tons of people don;t necessarily make for a great event either. I'd rather have a small event with quality people/impressions,than one with guys running around the field with the wrong weapons and uniforms "pretending" they're something else.

WHOA... isn't that exactly what we are all doing? Even if we have totally correct, stitch nazi, fusilier aproved impressions, we are still PRETENDING we're something we are not.

Where would US reenacting be if all the people that started it had thought as you do? I would guess you would STILL be doing a whole lot of nothing at this point. Crops don't just appear you have to cultivate the land. There are many ways to an end I know several here don't share my way. I'm ok with that.
We have many events with a few participants that are more strict on uniforms and weapons. This wasn't one of them. For reasons stated before 5 people does not an event make. Perhaps as stated the new HBO series will bring more people interested in getting a correct uniform.

There are different philosophies and different approaches and no one is wrong here so no need to get defensive. I agree with the whole farming analogy that CN puts forward (cultivating and growing your events) and I can also see Fusilier's point about quality over quantity. I think the pictures however decide the case. Those players all look like they are having fun to me.
Now to the main point, I opine that PTO will always be a hard sell because ETO is so much cooler, and varied, and there are European faces on all the ETO teams. That Asian face thing is a high hurdle for players who have to decide which impression they are pursuing. Not everyone has all the stuff you have Fusilier. Most are lucky to get one impression going. There aren't too many hybrid bastards (no offense intended) out there who can manage more then one. ;D

I see reenacting as not a perfect thing. There are guys who come in and out of it and never go all the way. Although they are not perfect reenactors they contribute to the hobby by just showing up and making an event an event. Then there are the older guys who have been in the hobby since the beginning and will most likely be in it till their end. They contribute by helping the young guys as they come and go. Whether your new recruit stays in the hobby or leaves it a couple years later can't be helped. All you can't count on is more new guys coming who need to be taught and corrected as you've done so many times before. Its a cycle just like life. It isn't perfect and you'll never find all reenactors being perfectly accurate to the way you want because all humans have slightly different or greatly different opinions then you. So the best we can do is try to be happy for what it is and try to make it better. just my 2 cents gibberish philosophy of reenacting. ;D I have to say though starting anykind of WWII Airsoft group in an area where it is dead and succeeding, which ever way you get there, is certainly an admirable thing. I wish anyone who is on the road to doing so good luck, patience, and hopefully a reward of a stitch nazi event at the end of there road ;D

Its just like white guys doing Viet Cong and whatnot, but,it is what it is I guess! I've always been of the quality over quantity mindset. Was I perfect at first? No,of course not.I got stuck in a REALLY bad unit, then did my own research then broke off,and I am where I am today. What I have today was aquired over 20 years of reenacting, and now AS. I believe people should start simple.Go for what COMMON. That is what is less expensive, and easy to do. If you wanna branch off and do another impression,go for it.Do the research, save your money, and do it right! I'm a bit anal retentive and WANT to do my impressions as close to 100% as I can. Would I like to see PTO stuff done? Of course I would! But I think the Eastern Front is WAY underrepresented both in blank fire and AS. And thats a terrible shame as so many huge important battles were fought, and millions fought and died there. I just hope AS manufacturers see that one day.

One of the reasons I left blank fire was the utter hypocrisy of many of the stitch counters. I'm all for material correctness (and am known as a fairly authentic fella) but boiled over every time some fat guy started getting down on a kid for having the wrong gear.
I'd rather play with fit guys in sub-standard gear than a bunch of Frito-eating tubbies in LB blouses.

My point Mr. F is that US reenacting started out pretty farb and pretty lame. It improved slowly. PTO is new to people so we get people started and improve. It may look horrid now but unless you get people out there and show them "this" is what you are supposed to look like then nothing gets started. You have to have a couple events with some lax uniforms.(Honestly the long hairs bother me more.We like to ridicule them and make them put their hair up in a bun ) Have some good older people show up in some good uniforms and hopefully build the next one on that. The next game instead of 5 people in acceptable impressions you have 6-8 and so forth. We all want to get to the point where everyone wears a good impression.

I was there (Cyclone) on the US side and had a blast. It's all about having fun and putting together the best impression you can afford. I can afford to buy a full set of repro HBT's and correct web gear. Some of the younger guys we play with can't. I'd rather them come to the event with a farb outfit rather than not at all. And in time, most will probably be able to improve their impression, that is if stitch nazis don't drive them off.

its just as hard to find blankfire japs out here on the eastcoast. most ive seen was an event our 9th imperial marines attended and we had maybe 14 japs and reading this year we had 5 or 6 vs 30 marines lol and that jap gear is so uncomfortable, i think the worst thing is the helmet. all the gear is my commanders but hes to busy commanding our german unit so i wear his gear at reading in any of u r interested in buying jap kits here is the place to do it...DO NOT buy the web gear from ima its junk an does not last long www.stewartsmilitaryantiques.com/display.php?getcategory=Japanese+Reproduction&session=6504220ef38393887cc58dc77583bcc8

Needless to say,we left the unit soon after! A gas mask can is not for food stuffs... why don't they just use the standard issue lunch pail like the second German is carrying. It appears to be the M44 Star Trek model.
