Ok, well I purchased a "CYMA" M14 off eBay, and as you might guess from the subject line, that is not what arrived. So before I raise a big stink with the seller, I'd like to know if this gun is actually going to work for the Garand conversion? Also, is it going to hold the converted shotgun mags? Has anyone actually used this gun?

The UTG M14 is ok. I own one. Shoots around 330fps. About the same as the AGM, and TSD versions. It'll work for your Garand conversion, hold the shorty clips etc.. Its not as good as the TM or CYMA but it works. If you can I'd return it and buy a CYMA. They are much better. Airsoft GI has them in stock.

There's no CYMAs available. ASGI has been sold out for a while now. Most other retailers since the big China scare earlier this month.

That's the OD version though... I guess I could always repaint the stock.

It's not that hard to make an OD look like a wood one. Just some brown paint. But actually paint it on with a brush, don't spray it. The brush gives it a "grain". I took a lighter and a darker paint and used the ligther color as a base and then painted over it roughly with the darker color. Make sure you don't slop the darker color over the light too much, allow some to show through. It works pretty good for a wood grain.

Ok. well maybe I should get the black version, and then if any plastic shows through it'll just look like grain. Thanks for the advice.

The black or OD stock will require a great deal of sanding. With the CYMA new stocks there is a realistic but annoying checkeboard grip finish at the hand neck and out on the sides toward the front of the stock. If you do the build up re-shape to make it more Garand like you'll cover all that anyway and the color won't matter in the least. The non "wood" finished stocks have a texture to them as well.
The CYMA is a significantly higher quality clone than the UTG although it is not a bad gun at all.

There is a chance you could transplant the guts of the CYMA into the UTG "wood" stock too.

The CYMA guts will plop right into the Marui, Kart, UTG and TSD etc stocks just fine. It's not to say that all the stocks are identical because they are not but the mount points are all within specs of one another.
