Jager, the battery will be accessed by removing the buttplate. On my milling pattern masters, I have to leave stubs on either end so that the master and the blanks to be shaped can be chucked into the copy lathe. Once the milling is done, the stubs are sawn off on a bandsaw and the battery and barrel guide paths will be open. Bat, the plan now is to do the first production run at the introductory price for WW2AA members. After that first run, my PPSh-41s will be offered for sale exclusively through www.airsoftbattlezone.com at full price.

I won't officially accept any orders until the test run of four is done (I need to work out the manufacturing bugs on a short run before plunking for the materials for a production run.)
I'll announce here when I'm ready to accept pre-orders, probably sometime in February. At that time, I will explain how to place an order with us and tell the total number for sale at the introductory price. Stone Gryphon Studio, my shop, can accept personal check, money order, MasterCard or VISA. Sorry, no Paypal for the introductory price, but I believe Airsoft BattleZone plans on accepting Paypal on the full-price guns.
I'll post all these details at the appropriate time. I'm glad other people are as excited as I am about having Papashas in play!!
I'd better go back to the shop now......

I should have grabbed all the molds when I was 2 feet away from them. That would have put an end to all this silly talk of ppsh's. Bah, humbug!
They look great up close in production. You allied types are lucky hombres.

SWEET!! I know I'll be buying one. I know a number of fellow Russian mil-sim enthusiasts that would love to have one as well.

ersatzjack2: Some German Osttroppen used PPSH-41`s, and as far as I know they brought the PPSH`s to the fighting in Normandie as well This is a great opportunity for you guys to stock up on a couple of those and you will have a smg that has more rounds in the mag, and anybody that knows history (Just about all ww2 airsofters, considering all the time they use to get the uniforms and equipment. Should also know that some germans used PPSH 41`s.) And as such I don`t think they`d complain, but rather be optimistic and happy to see someone going for kits that you do not see nowadays This PPSH really looks promising, very promising! I hope this will encourage Russian kits. Which I for one haven`t seen yet! S! RvH

At this stage in WWII airsoft I'm just glad to see someone show up with a period weapon at all. Even if it isn't exactly what they would have had for a particular unit or battle.

RvH Don't worry, ersatzjack2 just likes to give his axis camerades an upper hand (those spring k98's took a toll on us allies), he knows that these ppsh's are definitely a good thing for us WWII airsofters. I for one think these new PPSH-41's will not only be a great product, but really tempt people to do russian more. Hopefully mother-russia (thats you gryphon ) will be able to meet the supply wanted by us airsofters.

I think you will sell a bunch of them. Hopefully that will lead to more exciting offerings from you shop. This is very exciting.

That looks amazing. How did you make the mould for the upper/barrel guard? Did you make a pattern or make the moulds off an original?

Here are pics of the receiver/barrel shroud pattern pieces on their mount board. They were made from maple with five layers of automotive primer sanded back with 600 grit, sprayed with mold release, and block-molded with two-part pourable silicone rubber.

Thanks for those piks.
So how did you cut out the slotts for the barrel shroud and fore sight on the finnished casting?

The little dimples on the pattern are centers. The ends of each cooling slot are drilled out using a forsner bit, then the ends are joined to form the slot with a 1/8" Rototool Sabrecut bit chucked into a dremel (a drywall hole cutter would work just as well.) It's not quite as tedious as I was afraid it would be, but it is a somewhat time-consuming step, and I can see that the forsner bit will dull quickly. I might try a solid carbide bit next, when my forsner is too dull to cut anymore. The whole process could probably be done with a plunge router if I built the needed clamping jigs....

That makes sense.
You would probably have a similar problem with dulling whatever type of blade/bit/cutter you use.
The router Idea sounds good if you are making loads of them but if you are just doing 4 then it would probably take more time to make the jig and clamps than it normally takes you to do the cutting.

Exactly. I kinda want to see where demand volume settles at the full unit price before I invest in yet more fiberglass-specific tooling; besides, I don't yet know the production volume my copy lathe guy is willing to contemplate. Right now, it looks like he can't mill my 4 test-run stock blanks until after Christmas. By the end of December, however, I should have most of the big answers. So Take Heart, Comrades, soon we will smite the Hitlerite stooges and their Fascist lackies with our quick, bold, sudden and independent Submachinegun Activity!

You could also sell it to a few VC guys , since a bunch of the PPSh-41s found their way into the hands of the VC during the war

Wow. This is really going to add some punch to the Soviets! How many of your test guns will be operational at the April Neilsville event? Great work. You are a gentleman and a scholar. I'm tempted to pick one up for my Ostfront German impression, but I think I should let the Soviets get first dibs. Feel like plying your trade for a new German gun in the future?

The plan right now is to have four ready for field-test at the February event. What German gun did you have in mind, Herr Udo?

I thought that the MP-41(r) was the German designation for an unmodified Russian PPSh? It's quite possible I'm wrong. Just to cut through the terminology fog, I had something like this in mind: Gryphon, quite plainly, you are the man. Only a fencer could be as cool and skillful as you are.

I said it before and I'll say it again... Ppsh's, bah, humbug. Why do you need them? I say grab a Mosin Nagant and a cup full of moxie and you'll still strike fear into your opponents. Awww, hell, what the heck am I saying. They look SOOOO cool. I can clearly understand why people would want their coolness.
