I thought that the MP-41(r) was the German designation for an unmodified Russian PPSh? It's quite possible I'm wrong. Just to cut through the terminology fog, I had something like this in mind: Gryphon, quite plainly, you are the man. Only a fencer could be as cool and skillful as you are. From Wikipedia: The Wehrmacht officially adopted the converted PPSh-41 as the MP41(r), unconverted PPSh-41s were designated MP717(r).

I for one would LOVE to see a Gewere 43 tackled and available and believe there would be a considerable market for it. I do think however you'll have you hands full with the PP

Gryphon, in regards to the MP41(r). If the mag catch is the same as the "real" ppsh-41. One can get the MP41(r) magwell adaptor. AGM mags fit perfectly in the "real" mp41(r) magwell adaptor.
The question is, will the AGM mp40 mag w/ the mp41(r) mag well adaptor fit and feed properly?

Yeah, that's exactly the question. I get my first batch of stocks at the end of this week, and will be able to check feed alignment with an AGM MP40 mag once I have a gearbox pinned in place. In a PPSh-41, feeding is all about headspace - the top of that magwell is a crowded area. My drawings say it should work with some surgery on the M14 feed tube. In some ways, the "9mm conversion" version might prove an easier build, if for no other reason than that I don't have to scratchbuild the mag.

Would you be able to use a long Mp5 mag that has been cosmetically modified?

I certainly agree with you on that. Your drum mag won't be removable though?

I am also interested. Some time back I purchased an Ppsh-41 parts kit with the goal of one day "fixing" it enough to house a mechbox, but never was able to do much with it. This looks to be as good a substitute for that as I am likely to see (short of some Chinese company reproducing an AEG version of the old Hudson wall hanger). Non-removable drum is okay with me....sometimes compromises must be made.

I'm not into Russian impressions but I love your work. I want one and am prepared to buy. It'll be perfect for a early war VC impression.

Gryphon; Where behind the Chedder Curtain do you live? The reason I ask is not only do I want one, but I would like to vist you and help out in anyway. I'm down just southwest of Chicago. I hope you realize you have opened Pandora's box, your going to be making these guns for a long time. That's how many guys are going to want them. To keep up your going to have to change from being a one man operation. Don't worry about the cost, this is BIG and will be very good for you. Remember MADE IN THE USA

I want one too! However I'm reluctant to take advantage of Gryphon's discount offer. After all the guy deserves to make a buck. How about a semi discount offer Gryphon.

My friend Tom custom-builds beautiful 18th- and 19th-century-style blackpowder smoothbores and rifles, and he agreed to help me buzz out the hardwood stocks for our PPSh-41s in his gunstock copy mill. Here are some pics: Tom aligning a laminated blank with the pattern. We pre-milled the inletting when the stock blank was still in two halves, then I laminated the halves together with Gorilla Glue. The chips start flying! A new stock begins to emerge.... A blank, a roughed-out stock, and a smoothed stock ready for sanding. All in all, the test run of four was successful, although my patterns require a few tweaks before our first production run. My outer stock pattern warped slightly and will need to be reworked or replaced, while the inletting patterns need the corners radiused slightly more in the motor well/grip area . Today, I will be fitting the internals and mounting the first receiver and drum mag. More pics tonight!

Great great job Gryphon I think you will be very busy with these. Expect international orders and lots of them not to mention the US sales they will generate.

Great progress on your project Gryphon. Tom, Huh? I don't buy it. It sure looks like Santa's workshop to me. Are you an elf? ;D Until I see a frontal shot of Tom all I have to go on is the flowing white beard. Hmmmm?

Okay, Gryphon gets the professional award. Unless I am mistaken he is the only custom gun builder out there that has done actual blueprints of his project. Unlike most of us who hold it up to the light, cross their eyes, stick their tongue out and make an educated guess as to wether the piece will fit, he has figured it out before hand. Wish I had those skills. Would save me time and quarters into the cussin' jar.
Looks great gryphon, I look forward to owning one.

I suspect and am hopeful that this is just the first of many offerings from Gryphon and can legitimately see with perhaps two or three more custom guns of similar quality a substantial income potential. It appears you have started well my friend and I wish you the very very best of luck.
As always if there is anything I can do for you let me know. The CnC lathe is a huge plus. The guns look great. You're going to sell a bunch of them!

OK guys, Im the one you are referring to as Santa. Actually that is the top of my head and I'm not really that grey/white. For some reason the combination of the flood lamp over my milling machine and the flash of the camera makes me appear to be the jolly elf from the far north. ;D But you are all correct the Gryphon is truly an artist with far more patience than the average soul.

Waw, those last pictures look really promising. Coolest custom project I've seen in a while... I'd sell my left testicle for one if these. What barrel length do you need anyway? Is there a brand that makes them in the right length or will that be custom as well?

Heyy, this sparked my interest even more. Are you right-testicled (like right-handed or right-eyed), or is this about selling some left-wing stuff for a gun that cannot be more leftist?
I'll just keep quiet and not tell everybody that I want this gun. Very likely I'd be ready to give somebody else's testicle for it.
