Great build of one of the coolest SMGs of the war! Always wanted an Owen... if I ever put a Pacific Theatre impression together, I wanna do either an Aussie with an Owen or a Kiwi with a Charlton conversion....
Crap, here I am doing the research to build one of these for an Ausie Vietnam impression, thinking I am going to be so original, and I find this, LOL! Nice work guys, looks beautiful! I am curious, since I have never handled one of these, you got any clear pictures of the sights I could talk you out of? I am planning to use a V.7 gearbox in mine, and making the hop-up from scratch, but was figuring to use the MP40 mags to save myself the trouble of having to make some, so I guess we are approaching this from two different directions with a similar end result. When I get mine finished, I will post pictures for you to see what I did, but the model I am looking at making is this one;
I'm hesitating to make one in the summer too(naturally after SKS)... so I'm collecting pictures... There are some good ones: www.replicatorsaustralia.com/Machine%20Guns.html As I see the SMG has a ring sight, and an "arm like" foresight with an edge on the end...
Maybe I'll make a combo of thees, to make it as easy as possible, with all wood furniture(to place the battery)... I also have questions: There is a selector on the other side... but how it works??? Auto/safe, full auto/semi/safe, or what... clockwise, counterclockwise??? Is it able to shoot semi auto???

Since it fired from the open bolt, I can't really say, and none of my research has told me if it is full auto only or if it has a semi setting. I am trying to make up my mind between a mini battery in a pistol grip or a large battery in the stock, but have also considered a mid-sized battery in the lower part of the receiver that the stock attaches to, just not cutting it out to help hide the battery. There is some thick walled aluminum tubing that will work great for the barrel, and thin wall 1.5"/38mm tubing that will work great for the receveiver tube itself. I plan on using sheet metal to make the lower receiver portion, and just welding it to the tubing to make construction easier. I am planning to rob the mag release from a MP40 for the mag well, then just using sheet metal to make the mag well sleeve itself, unless I can get some clearer pictures of the mag release somewhere. Trigger will be a micro switch behind the sheet metal trigger, so nothing really earth shattering there. I am still working on what kind of gearbox I will use, but leaning towards a modified M14 gearbox, since they are cheap and readily available. I am going to use a threaded flash hider to hold on the front sight, with a simple keyway holding it in alignment for sighting properly, and a modified hose clamp for the fore grip. I am pretty sure I can replicate the bayonet style pins for disassembly, so it should be pretty easy to take apart for transport. I am also looking to use a P90 hop-up unit, in conjunction with the MP40 mags. With the ejection port being a clear cut-out area of the tube, adjustment should be unobstructed.

Dracul: It looks like it lost a lot of steam and I now feel bad for randomly dropping off.

stuka: I mean it's not your fault. It is interesting though that things are falling off as we are finally getting our ww2 guns with the type 38/96 and the enfield as well as it recieving a new loading system, it's kind of unfortunate

Dracul: I don't know, maybe its because all the guns are becoming available, there is a decreasing need for the forums.

Dracul: Most of the talk was about making guns, as all the uniform info was already out there, but now the weapons are out there and are usually decent quality.

stuka: well the forum is and should still be useful for updates on guns, creating groups/events and building kits

Cpl. Hicks: I haven't been here in years, but I'm glad to see this forum is still kicking! So much great info on here.

savoy6: anyone know if anyone still carries the enfield?

Dracul: I think Redwolf has a Enfield. If not or not longer, then not until G&G releases theirs. The old gas Iron Airsoft brand SMLE isn't carried by anyone anymore and was such piece of crap. Not worth trying to track one down.
