I'm not going to rip you apart for making a mistake a lot of other people have. I hope by this point you know you wasted your money. You could have bought a field cap and worn that till you could afford a helmet and been better off. The straps are/were epoxied in you could probably find leather straps and epoxy them in but then you are throwing good money after bad at that point. To make it fit a better get some bike helmet pads at wally world and that will make it fit your head a little better. A paintjob may make it look a little better aswell.

What the hell is that?? You could've gotten a decent repro from overseas for under $100. Like CN said SAVE your money and don't rush out to buy the first thing you see.Or at least ASK what is the best thing to buy. Most on here are willing to help.

i was planing on doing a snow camo finish. im not making a mistake, because i dont play with other people who play ww2 airsoft! i dont care if its not an exact replica , but i want it to look somewhat realistic . and the germans put netting on the m34 helmets right?

The ones I have seen personally are too flimsy to support netting or covers other wise I would suggest that. If you don't care then this is probably not the best place to ask questions like this. I would never suggest someone come to a forum concerned with history and say they don't care about the history the other people are obviously concerned with. Why wear a helmet at all if you don't care? Why not just buy some Flectarn or other modern BDU's?

i didnt mean it like that! i guess that came out wrong. i do care about the history but when im in my back yard playing with some friends there not going to know its not a accurate. i was thinking about maybe reinforcing it with something but i dont know what! im just trying out which side i want to be on also.

more importantly, if you don't care about its accuracy, why bother with this thread at all other than to say look at me look at me? do what you want with it, you are the one who bought it and have made it clear you do not care about its correctness.
this thread seems to be in the wrong forum as well but i'm not a mod.

seriously! i already stated that i care about the accuracy, but i just want to figure out if i want to do Allies or Axis! if i decide that im going to do axis i will then shell out the 100. + dollars. but until then! how would i go about making it look more like a real m35 helmet? and maybe reinforce it so it is less flimsy!
also not to sound like an jerk, but this is considered gear or equipment right?

Get some black leather straps from a Surplus Store, get some foam padding and glue it in, then you can white wash it for the winter. It'll look fine for your uses.

You might be able to reinforce it with fiberglass matte and resin on the inside. If that stiffens it up then a cover and some leather chin straps epoxied in will make it look ok I suppose from 10 feet or so. This can be ok for here but probably might also fit in the impression information area. Grab some white paint and throw it on there like you are in a hurry.

ok, thanks... also that website looks like they have alot of cool things on it www.reww2.com/would bondo work???

I don't think bondo will do it. The fiberglass matte will harden up and stick to the plastic I think.

could you explain what the fiberglass matte is and how it is done please?

fiberglass matte is like a woven fabric material it comes in a smoothish woven variety and a rough course variety. You can find it at autoparts stores and Wallyworld. You buy the fiberglass resin and apply it to the fabric then apply that to whatever you want to reinforce. It does warm up as the chemical reaction in the resin gets going. I would worry a little about it melting the plastic but you might be ok. when in doubt test a little area.

Respirators are always good when working with polyester or epoxy. On a small project like this you're probably ok just working in an open area with good air circulation. Maybe set up a small fan blowing the fumes away from you. Get a package of throwaway painters latex or nitrile gloves. And maybe a tube of barrier cream to put on exposed skin. Do a small section at a time. Resins are messy and tricky to work with until you you get the hang of it, and then they're still messy and tricky.
Once you get it stiffen up, you can put a camo cover over it.

I have one of the cushman US helmets and I may actually replace the metal shell from my ATF helmet with it (IE use the plastic cushman and the ATF liner) Just so my neck doesnt snap while Im playing airsoft. If I was actually reenacting I would wear the shell and all that but Im trying to go the fine line between looking good while effectively playing airsoft lol....
Does anybody know if the plastic cushman would just fit on the ATF liner like normal? Im not sure how he does his molding....

I did silly things like mow the lawn in mine for a couple months to get used to mine before JTD. I still don't think they weigh that much.

What company makes this crap? I never heard of these. I had hard plastic one that was a lot more correct than that. My friends kid has it now. Got it from Collectors Armoury in the 70's.

Cushman Custom Creations makes them. I agree they are cheap and not worth the trouble savage will spend on it but yea he doesn't have a lot of money and has some time so go for it. As for Helmets slowing you down in airsoft??? Soldiers lived in them all day for months in real war, I'd think we could for a day at an airsoft event. Seriously though I wear mine when I play. They really don't weigh much and won't slow you down at all. Never gave me any neck pains, that just happens when I sleep wrong. ;D

Yeah I like to ride the mower around the yard in boxers and a housecoat with an M1 on my head and SWD goggles....The neighbors don't talk to me much. I like it that way. I stay on my 2 acres they stay on thiers I wish I had more like 10 acres but I got what I got......
Thread derailed sorry. Back to this gentlemans question.

I've heard they could take months to make and ship there stuff. I assumed you already had it. Just put a Grey Spray Paint primer on and then do the White Acrylic.

I ordered their BAR. It took them two months to deliver. I don't know if that's normal or they were just busy. On that mask, does it say it's for fumes? If it's just a dust mask it won't do any good. The ones that are made for fumes will have carbon in material (they look dark). Those are actually for paint fumes, not resins, but it can't hurt combined with good ventilation. They're inadequate for serious jobs.

I've gotten my repro helmets from overseas in a couple weeks. Like I said, UNDER $100 and you don't really have to change anything.
