I will pre-apologize if this is redundant or something that is common knowledge but many people are telling me that some kind of side arm is recommended for these events. I was wondering if gas pistols would be allowed. I am considering getting a gas Mauser and wanted to check before doing so.

The only time you NEED a pistol is when you are armed with a bolt action rifle that shoots hot. By that, I mean over 400fps. You must adhere to a 50' minimum engagement rule and so the pistol is handy close in if you have the time to go for it. If you are fighting with smg's you don't really need it.
Many guys like to carry one because they WANT it though. It adds weight and you'll seldom use it as it won't usually match the performance of your main weapon. If you want it for pics that would be another reason. Finally, make sure you're not overdoing it. Most combatants didn't have them. They were reserved for Officers, some NCO's, and some others but the basic grunt had enough to do with carrying and maintaining one weapon.

Thanks Ersatzjack, this has been a long discussion with my friends who are insisting I get a side arm. Personnaly I think they are a waste, but you have helped reinforce my belief that they are probably not going to be much use in combat.
That aside, are there any rules regarding gas powered pistols. I ask because I know the other two guys coming with me are going to want to know.

I always carry a pistol at modern events, and a good 80% of the time it never leaves the holster. For WWII I only carry one when running my Mauser, and even then have only had to pull it once. Once in a great while a sidearm will pull your fat out of the fryer, but the vast majority of the time they are just additional weight.

I only carried a sidearm one in modern, and once in WW2. Never used it. I'm debating carrying one at this event even though I'm an NCO.

The only players that should carry a sidearm if we want to be true to accuracy are Mashinengewehr Schutzen, Fallshirmjagers and Kompanie grade Officers. It was also quite rare to see an NCO with a side arm since most were equipped for the most part with Machine pistols. It would not be necessary to buy a pistol for WWII reenacting you could put that money towards improving your impression, those are my thoughts on pistols in WWII airsoft!
If you are thinking of getting a C96 broomhandle gas Mauser that would be completely incorrect for WWII. I have only seen one photo of soldaten carrying a C96 in WWII and that was an infanterie NCO in Stalingrad!
Cryonics what is your first name and have you registered for the event yet? Looking forward to meeting you. -Gerry

Barring authenticity, which I think is what we should look at, but aside from that they are minimally useful. I saw a case this last weekend where a fellas battery died in the middle of a mission just as the enemy was making a push and he had to hold out on his pistol but I would say that is not the norm.

Thanks again everybody for the input. To answer your questions Gerry, I have registered for the event, first name is JP. Looks like some people carry and others do not, however most feel it is probably not necessary. The only question that has still not been answered is for those that carry, are they allowed to carry gas powered pistols or is this not permitted. Re the Mauser C96, from what I read it was mostly used in WWI but apparently some second line troops did use them in WWII. Hopefully if one of us does bring one, that it would be period enough to be accepted. Maybe a wayward soldier from Stalingrad that ended up in Brecourt You guys have been great, really appreciate all the answers

I see no problem with gas powered pistols as long as they conform with the guidelines of FPS just remember to keep the green gas concealed in a PACK at all times.
And for those who may need to arrive later on Friday evening there will be somebody available to register you but you will need to arrive before dark.

Can you tell me what you ended up getting from them. >> I got their M42 tunic. Heres the short review: Awful buttons-I'm replacing with originals The color is SLIGHTLY greener than I'd like, but not awful. The wool is better than expected. The fit is perfect! I ordered the medium, and I take a 42 tunic. I'm sending it to someone who specializes in German uniforms to sew on the insignia and collar tresse for me. All in all, worth the $75 I paid for it. Its perfect for what I'll be using it for.

>> From what I can tell, the items are NOT available to consumers,or so it says. It looks like they only sell wholesale to dealers. I've always seen these in the european publications and wonder how they get away with using them, being they have such strict firearms laws. Also, people are lawsuit crazy here in America, maybe thats why pyro rarely is used. Me, i have no problem whatsoever with using them. But thats up to event organizers whether they want to allow them or not.

Might be tough to get since they want to only sell to establish companies on a wholesale level. I hope you get them, it will add a nice a interesting flavor to the game. (Just don't kill me with one of those Gerry!) Good luck in getting them.

Question for Piper:
Since we're talking about grenades, what type of U.S. grenades will be excepted? Are we still going with the tennis ball grenade? Are rubber dummy grenades ok? Or do we need to have the Escort MKII Pineapple Grenade that actually disburse BB's?
I think grenades will be an important element in recreating the assault on the Fixed German 88 positions.
Looking forward to this.
