Hey, With spring here and summer around the corner I am thinking of starting a project. I wanted to convert an out-of-action browning 30 cal into an airsoft weapon. I prefer to use a parts kit rather than build my own out of ABS (just for authenticity reasons). Bottom line: Anyone know a good place to buy metal weapons parts kits?

I expected as much... any ideas where I can find one? I have been looking around online mostly searching "browning 30cal parts" on yahoo and google, not very much luck... I remember I saw a complete 30 cal and mg43 gun kit on sportsman's guide but cant find them again on their website... any other ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

perfect, that's exactly what im looking for, thanks! Its about the price I expected. I notice that they want to charge 125 for a side plate, i can just make that and buy the rest... I wanted to try and use tha innards of a tm Ak47, i know most people use m16's and m14's prolly for their longer barrel length and smaller mags, anyone have luck with an ak47 to mg conversion?

The fact that an AK or M16 (and most all other airsoft gear boxes) angle the motor off into a pistol grip will render them impractical for this project. You will be surprised at how liitle room you have to work with inside the 30 Cal box. For that reason I think you will discover that an M14 or the M249 gear box will be your best bet.
Good luck with the project and let us know how it goes. With VIVA supposedly set to intorduce a ready made 30 Cal in the $700.00 range that is probably the better way to go ultimately

2nd Bat is correct in what he saying. You will need an M249 gearbox and turn it upside down.

Right, I expected as much due to the real trigger action coming out of the rear of the gun box almost in an upside down fashion... I would not mind the challenge plus I wanted to do this for the purpose of having a authentic 30. cal. This is meant to take me a while as I am looking for something to do over the summer when i'm not working. I may have to make my own bottom and top plates to widen the box in order to fit the trigger assembly, motor and of course the battery. I will also have to come up with a ammo feed system or just use vn style m16 mags. Oh the excitement. I will keep you all posted with my progress!

You cut the front trunion block to give you room. Star 249, Wild Monkey 249, and PGC 249 gearboxes will fit. I left the original trigger assembly intact, and made this one from a chunk of round stock. Schmitty built the best one, with a complete custom built internal feed system. ///ed///

thanks for sharing biged that looks killer! And i like what you did with the trigger assembly, it looks alot more practical than what I was thinking. This is my first major project all i have done before are some conversions and upgrades haha. I am sure I am going to put alot of blood sweat and tears into this (mostly blood ) but I will be the more wiser when done! If I have question when I actually start the project (here in two or three months) I will be sure to bother you guys haha. Thanks again for sharing

Tricky, I think you will enjoy building it yourself. I am almost finished with mine. I machined it from aluminum. Like you mentioned earlier I widened it just a bit. I also changed the trunnion design, and I mounted the 249 gearbox righhtside up. The feed tube enters right under the feed pawl, its hidden by the dummy ammo belt. I used a modified m249 saw ammo box internals mounted inside a 30 cal ammo box. The guys on the forum, like Biged and Kalbs are great guys, they have given me really good advice, listen to them, they have been there, done that! Go ahead get to building!!!!

I really appreciate the help, fellas! I feel alot more comfortable starting the project knowing I have some guys with the know-how to back me up. I just bought tons of crap on atthefront, as well as a MP40 and Sten mkII (haha) so for money sake I am not gunna get this project under way for a couple months during the summer. I will be sure to post photo updates and pester you guys with my questions:D Thanks again, guys!
