Would a Tanaka Luger be a good gun to get as a hand gun? (not for skirmishes, just to have as a model) I am a little concerned because I have No experience with gas guns. Help?
I am also considering the gas Hudson m3a1, how much maintenance does it require?

I happen to own one of these. It's quite nice externally, not too much metal but it doesn't feel plasticky. Unfortunately it doesn't have any kind of hop-up, but the power is OK for a pistol, even with 134a. The magazine is probably the weakest point of the design; it leaks real easily. Of course it can be fixed with something to seal the seams properly, mainly from the bottom part. If you want purely a good gun for gaming, the P08 might not be the best choice. But for a WW2 freak...well...

I have owned both the Tanaka Luger and Maruzen P38. I have heard a lot of horror stories about the Tanaka magazine leaks and parts breaking if not handled with "kid gloves". The Maruzen is less money and more durable overall. Both are excellent and have a great feel, but the Tanaka is more fragile and requires care (the firing pin is weak and can break rather easily). I would say get the Maruzen P38 for heavy play or even the full metal HFC Broomhandle Mauser if you want power and MAJOR durability. They were were scarce in WW2 but a few German soldiers did have them.

Oh yeah, you should definitely not dry-fire it with magazine in the gun. That'll wreck the firing pin. Hmm, I haven't had any problems with durability, although I don't handle it too rough. But absolutely not with silk gloves either. And I'm the second owner, so the gun has seen a fair share of action.
The P08 is very fun to shoot and fits perfectly in hand. Better than some of the more modern guns I've tried. It doesn't have any notable recoil (at least with the 134a gas), because the action bounces up.
Still, the Maruzen P38 would probably be your best bet for a good German WW2 pistol that can withstand serious gaming.

Hi, The Tanaka Luger is an excellent pistol, with very accurate detail and markings. It does have adjustable hop-up. It will only operate reliably on 134a gas as the mechanism is a fragile design. Use green gas only below 15 degrees C. and at risk of long term durability. If you want a big bang and max power buy another gun. However as an accurate working replica of an iconic pistol it is hard to fault. I have modified mine to use green gas safely , giving higher velocity but with the recoil associated with 134a gas. Stoch power with 134a is 220 fps (.20gm bb`s). Modified gives 265 fps with ABBEY ULTRA gas which is about 8-10% lower power than green I prefer Abey Ultra in most of my guns as it has the 10% lower safety margin over green gas.I don`t know if you can get Abbey gas in the USA. flatrajectory.

just make sure it's not broken. If it makes any difference, the guy who owns my local airsoft store uses his tanaka luger to do training against the local police departments in the area, this is a guy who owns A LOT of airsoft guns, and the tanaka luger is his favorite pistol.

Why not buy the WE Luger its all metal and uses green gas its more powerful. But the HFC Broomhandle mauser hands down beats them all(in my opinion) there is a trick I know to increase the HFC mausers FPS to 600! No joke.

What i have found is that you can get pc duster gas, and use that, or look in the car section of walmart/etc., as 134a is used as a refrigerant in AC systems. I have found it both places. Also, most of the time, with the duster cans, if you rip off (gently of course the little plastic top nozzle (the ones i had looked like spray paint nozzles) you will expose a straight tube that will fit onto the gas magazines to fill them up. (with highly recessed inlets you may need to make an adapter, which could just be a metal rod drilled out to fit over the nozzle, and into the gas port)

I own a tanaka luger since 2006 and its been in skirmishes since then I use in it only duster gas I clean and lub it after every day of skirmish and it still working
PS: I buy it when there was no even a sing of WE lugers coming out I would buy WE luger now since I would have trouble finding my self propane and its the same gas I use in my tanaka k98
