A while back there was a discussion about the myth of Polish Cavalry charging tanks. I came across this article at Military History Online about how the story came about, and also about the Polish cavalry in general during the invasion of Poland. Interesting story. www.militaryhistoryonline.com/wwii/articles/polishcavalry.aspxWhat's also interesting is the way the story was spread and persisted because of the propaganda efforts of both sides. The Germans spread the story as proof of how backwards and stupid the Poles were, while the Allies repeated the story to prove how brave and resolute the Poles were.

The myth is largely due to a post war film actually by a polish director. While some German propganda showed said charges it becomes 'polish legend' with the release of Lotna in 1959 by Andrzej Wajda. www.imdb.com/title/tt0053019/plotsummaryedit: ah just read your link which mentions lotna!

Had the polish used Napoleinc hussars they would have crushed the panzer, nobody can stand up to a charge from someone dressed that nice, unless they are dressed even better(something grey pazer uniforms aren''t)
All they would have to do is ride up to the panzer, jump on, jump down into the tank and saber the germans.

As a kid reading about the Polish Cavalry attacking German armor during WWII , i didn't pictured in my mind the modern Polish cavalry but the old Winged Hussar .

I heard of Polish cav attacking and decimating German rear area units. I also heard Polish cav DISMOUNTED and engaged panzers with anti-tank weapons. NOBODY is stupid enough to charge ANY kind of vehicle with horses! The Poles were VERY brave, and gave the Germans more than most people know. IF they had a chance to fully mobilize it would have taken the Germans MUCH longer to defeat them,if at all.

But not the larger PZ III's and early IV's.
