Hey all, I recently decided to start doing USMC before The Pacific makes the gear get expensive. Here's a few photos: img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Colosseum/airsoft/S4020776.jpgKitlist: - M1 helmet with ATF repro camouflage cover - ATF repro P42 camouflage utility shirt - ATF repro P41 utility trousers - ATF repro USMC leggings - ATF repro roughout service shoes - Original M1936 pistol belt with: - Original M1910 canteen covers - M1916 leather holster for WE M1911A1 - Jungle first aid pouch - 2x M1942 first aid pouch - Compass pouch with lensatic compass - USMC pack suspenders Things I need to fix that you don't need to bother with calling out : - Replace OD 7 canteen cover with an OD 3 one - Replace plastic canteen with stainless steel one - Replace black leather VN holster with a proper brown leather one I'm in no hurry to replace my old black holster. It has served me well for almost two years now and I love it. After these photos were taken, I got in my 782 haversack and my spare magazine bag that I carry Thompson mags/BBs in.

lookin good there 'jarhaid'! yeah, the obvious. of course, now gotta 'member, those jungle first aid kits and the 'frogs' didn't come out until around the Bougainville campaign, so if you do a 'canal impression take the helmet cover off and use an hbt o.d. tope. Where's your blade? EVERY Marine has some kind of a blade, even if ti's a civilian hunting knife. Oh, yeah, don't worry too much about the green canteen case, the Marines picked up army gear, just had USMC stenciled on it. Wasn't uncommon for a Marine to be seen using some o.d. army stuff. Oh, oops, also almost forgot, the practice of carrying 2 canteens didn't start around Bougainville also. But man, looking sharp! Ditch the grey t-shirt, white, o.d. or a white tank top.

Well to be honest I'm not really going for any particular "era", but my main kick to make a USMC setup came from Flags of Our Fathers more than The Pacific. So I guess Iwo Jima and afterwards, or maybe Peleliu? I have only seen The Pacific up to part 5. I guess it's more fair to say that I've used both for reference as well as period photos and stuff like that.
I've been trying to get a hold of one of those USMC machetes with the canvas webbing sheathes for a while now, but no luck. The flimsy China nylon ones from Wal Mart don't cut it in my book.
My undershirt is a really pale green (close to the foliage green shirts the Army issues today) t-shirt, I haven't been able to afford a proper reproduction one but I have been looking at the OD green USMC shirts for sale on At the Front.
I'd like to be able to remove the Eagle Globe and Anchor insignia from the shirt but that's just not possible. I don't like wearing something like that since I'm not in the Marine Corps and I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to disrespect anyone in the service by wearing their insignia. What do you think about that gunner?

Well, you're pretty set on then if you're looking at mid-late war. Bougainville was like the second big amphib landing after 'canal, so you're good there. What I was getting at is, IF you ever do a 'canal/Makin/Tuligai scenario, then just modify a little and you're good. Oh, okay, then the pale green so it's a 'faded' o.d.!! lol Machete's are out there, just gotta look for them, I found mine in an antique store for $75.00. I paid the same price for my BOLO, all I had to do was fix the handle, it works fine. No one is going to say anything about the EGA, you're doing an 'impression', not walking around say you are one. Most of us Marines know the difference. Besides, you don't want to remove the EGA, 1- it's SACRALIDGE!!! (LOL) and 2-all of them had it. So, as a retired Marine, well, okay, I had 12 years active duty and was forced out and wound up retiring from the army reserves but, Once A Marine, Always A Marine, you have my blessing!!! LOL

looking good for a mid war piece. For Iwo Jima/Okinawa there is no camo, it was ditched by the front line after tarawa (except the helmet covers). Be sure to get the USMC forest green tshirt or a white one. The USMC t shirts were distinctly different from the army. Tank tops could be army ones. For Iwo Jima you can also use the army jacket as they wore those to keep out the cold.
You've got a great start. Dont worry about the USMC logo. I was never in the corps, but every marine I have met so far, and I mean every, thinks it is pretty cool that someone cares about the corps. They are tired of hearing WW2 army this, and WW2 navy that. Band of Brothers, airborne, etc. I would be very surprised if you found a marine that was upset at you wearing the EGA.

OK, made the giant picture into a link to stop killing the forum width. Jesus that was getting annoying.
I wasn't aware that Iwo Jima was cold... I thought it was hot like everywhere else in the Pacific. I wondered why they were wearing M41s in Flags of Our Fathers. I guess the invasion was in February after all, hell it's even cold here in Houston in February... lol.
I'm going to place another ATF order soon and I'll definitely get a foliage green USMC t-shirt and probably a P41 utility shirt while I'm at it.

Looking good, I'd say get two either 1st or 2nd pattern marine canteen covers from ATF as well, those are good for the entire war. Also, if ya don't wanna worry about an undershirt you can also go no undershirt as well, plenty of photos to substantiate that.

Thanks for all the replies guys. That picture was actually taken at an airsoft field outside Tulsa, OK. I'm up here at college but I'm going home on Monday, unfortunately. It's too damn hot at home to screw around with airsoft and nobody wants to do it anyways. I'm going to one more game this Saturday before I leave, I'll try to get some pictures. Thinking of buying an M41 to do Iwo Jima, but not sure I want to fork out $125 for an ATF repro...
