I recently got to play with my mp44, when I first got it I cleaned out the gearbox.. this being my first airsoft gun ever I learned some things. The damn safety never really worked right, I got it working for a bit, now it kinda "pops" out of place when I select it. That is just kind of annoying to be honest, the field I played at showed it shooting 380-420+ or so. This is pretty good I think.. What I am worried about is general maintenance, I use a 8.4v 1600mh battery and shoot .25g bb's. I know eventually I will have to replace things or upgrade, but I don't want to lose fps, or gain a whole ton because the field has a limit on 450 fps for aegs. How exactly am I going to make sure this doesn't happen? I keep thinking im going to buy a part then the fps is going to be either way too high or drop down a bunch. This is probably me just thinking too much or being annoyed that the safety is acting up, or being afraid of complicated repairs lol. I am aware of "ready to go" gearboxes, would any of these fit the mp44? www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_68_518&products_id=30443Thank you guys.

The AGM MP44 is "ready to go" as is. If you want to keep the fps more or less stable, make sure you decompress the spring after use by shooting a few shots in semi-auto. That's basically all you have to do for maintenance, aside from cleaning the barrel once in a while. I suggest replacing/upgrading parts only when something breaks down or needs changing. Again, the AGM MP44 is good to go already.

How exactly do I clean the barrel?? Is it any different because it's airsoft? And im referring to when I need to fix parts, I am not exactly sure how often that is? I barely shoot any rounds as it is, im a very conservative shooter lol.
More specifically, I am not sure what the parts/brands are that are in the gearbox, including the motor and barrel.

The barrel can be cleaned using the cleaning rod included. The mp44 has a ver 2 gearbox. Spring is possibly close to a PDI190 or M125. Actually, everything in the gun is ok stock. You won't need to replace anything anytime soon. No need to change the barrel. The gears are steel. My Mp44 is still stock and is a workhorse. Around 3000 rounds and still shoots 420fps. I also use an 11.1V lipo without any problems. I suggest keeping it stock then just replacing stuff as needed. Start with a spring guide with bearings.

You sound like a real shooter, but, you don't need to break down an AS gun after every event, unless you have major issues.

barrel cleaning is not a bad idea, but it hurts or can even destroy the hop up. The hopup is is very hard to remove from that gun. The original design from 10 years ago used a smaller plastic hop up, which was easier to dissassemble and clean, but very flimsy so far as longevity. I would say, only clean it when it jams, Ie, you played at a really sandy feild.
Truth is, it takes one grain of sand to stop a bb dead in the barrel. so yeah knowing the bore is clean is important, its just tough on that due to the new (way better) metal hop up units they use in it. -Gordak
