Do not purchase anything from By The Sword! If you want cheap inaccurate crap from India that you're just going to have to replace in a week, then go for it. My advice, as it will be anyone elses on this forum, save your money, use a recommended dealer, and buy correct gear!

Other than that advice I'd say go with M42. 43's were later in the war for most units.

i did check out epic militaria but i don't know if they ship to the US
and to be honest i don't really plan on joining any units for reenacting, I'm just a bit of a ww2 nut and want a unique uniform that's different from the camo my buddies wear. So would the m43 clothing be correct as I'm basing the impression off of what the UK Comrades in Arms website lists for their kit guide

It depends what look your going for. M43 Jackets started being issued around late summer of 1944 and started to get widespread by fall. M42's would cover early and late war. I'd suggest you try At the Front for the stuff you want. What, Price, Glory is ok too but there M43's look kinda bad. Military Tour is probably ok too. WWII Impressions is also a great vendor but they are expensive.

Okay, I think my question is answered. Thanks everyone, so the M43's are an accurate piece of WW2 equipment. Now I just need the M36 belt and 1916 Holster to finish out the start of my uniform. Is there anything else I should like at for a basic impression or am I set?

Also, those M43 trousers wouldn't be correct for an Airborne impression since they don't have the cargo pockets.

WW2 Impressions sells a package deal containing the M43 Jacket and the Airborne modified trousers for 323$. Pricey but they seem like a good website. The only thing they don't have is the 1916 .45 holster, that'll just come later I guess

You'll just need boots and a helmet to complete the basic impression. At the Front sells Airborne Helmets. For boots either M43 double buckle or jump boots.

did the 101st fight before Normandy? I know some of the 82nd guys kept 42's for quite awhile after MArket Garden. Need a set of 43's sooner or later myself.

No the 101st did not see action before Normandy. Here go to this website as it has all kinds of information. www.101airborneww2.com/ I also recomend you read some of his books too.

The only airborne unit to see action in north africa was the 2nd battalion 509th PIR, later 509th PIB. The 17th praticipated in operation Varsity and also saw action in the bulge.
