One of the more disgusting episodes at the end of the War. By both the British and Americans. Nobody knew the true horror of Communism till much later..

One of the more disgusting episodes at the end of the War. By both the British and Americans. Nobody knew the true horror of Communism till much later.. War is Hell. Those guys picked the losing side (or were victims of really bad luck, being pressed into service). But, fighting o nteh German side, the Western Allies had no obligation to them, where they did have an obligation to get back the thousands of Allied POW's liberated by the Russians. I don't think anyone in positions of power had any illusions that Stalin wouldn't hold Allied POW's hostage to get back people he considered traitors.

Chiang Weikuo (Jiang Weiguo) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiang_Wei-kuoSent to Germany for military studies. Served a bit in their military, then came back to China (then later to Taiwan) as commanding armored units. Later forced to retire... I have a small stack of letters that he and my dad wrote to each other back in the 70s. Kind of interesting.
