Hello guys I was just wondering what was more common in WWII the 20round mag or the 30 round mag. My guess is the 20 but Im just not so sure. Thank you

well i looked this up a little more in-depth, and apparently the marines used the 20 round magazine at the beginning of the war, (with both the 1928 and m1a1), but in december 1941, the 30 round magazine was approved standard and quickly phased out the 20 round magazine. as you say your an european-theatre airsofter, 30 round magaines are correct since the marines never faught in the ETO. not to mention the 20 round magazine pouches had 5 cells with two of them on a belt, and the 30 round magazines had 3 cell pouches (2 of them as well).

Throughout the war the 20 round magazines were the most common for the Thompson. The 30 round were very popular of course and used when guys could get them. Incidently soldiers continued to use the five cell pouches even with the 30 round magazines They just wrapped the strap around the magazine and snapped it into place.
The late war Grease gun pouch was a three pocket pouch and it was used with Thompson magazines as well. Most guys who carried a Thompson during the war say they used the GP bag to carry mags in typically.
