I'm looking to do just a regular grunt loadout. I will probably be ordering the m43 tunic trousers and hat (im not a helmet fan, but i'll probably get one later) and related gear (belt, buckle, straps) from at the front. My questions are:
Are the ATF jackboots worth the $185 and are the comfortable? I've heard they suck and I've heard they are great. I'll sweat to death in wool in Arizona in the summer, but i really don't want to destroy my feet everytime I go airsofting. What are some other options?
Are the $135 mp40 puches worth it or should I get some cheaper ones? That seems a little exorbitant especially as the Hessen ones are $45, but I'm not sure. If they are great I'll whip out the wallet.
vielen dank!

I wasn't a fan of my steel pot when I was in the Army either, but in combat you wore them... And its more correct..
I'll second what Kalbs says about Spearhead. MOST of the stuff is decent. Watch the wool stuff though, its hit or miss...

Maybe I'll look into spearhead for the gear and get the clothes from At The Front? Are the lowboots more comfortable as they are about the same price as the jackboots? ARe ATF low boots better than their jack boots?

Well, you can't go wrong with ATF. Every single item I've ordered from them has been a piece of beauty.

I use spearhead wool axis kit, my field gear is a mix of original and far east repros... hardly anyone ever says anything about the quality.

I have a Spearhead German M42 tunic. All I did was replace the crappy buttons with originals, and added original litzen,NCO tresse and breast eagle. OTOH, I ordered a pair of Luftwaffe trousers,M38 I believe. I didn't like the color, seemed too gray, and the gold colored thread they used. Their camo is good. I have one of their Luftwaffe field division jackets and the splinter B is great. I recently got an M38 SS palm/forest smock and helmet cover, also VERY nice quality!

You have to actually shop around, even the Chinese store dont have good prices for what you're paying.
For example, I got a DAK and luftwaffe bread bag from HIKI but it a much lighter material then the one, feldgrau, that I got from Reenactorstuff, a US store on Ebay. Its a ten dollars different. But the stuff is much for sturdy and would probably last longer.
$135 for the all US made MP40 pouches is a bit too much in my opinion, it should be around $45 like at hessen.
If anybody think that hopnail jackboot is confortable, they are freaking crazy, I got a used pair of ATF jackboot. I got lucky with it though, I wont it on ebay for $98 and the guy already dye and seal the raw brown boots. Low boots are the best option actually, I love mine, so much lighter and more comfortable.
I recommend you get a HBT uniform its a lot more comfortable to play in, I'm in Texas, its not as hot as Arizona but if you insist on wearing wool you'll be fighting just to keep yourself hydrate.
You really have to shop around and browse ebay like a maniac if you want to get US made stuff for cheap. If you just want to use it for airsoft, just get the Chinese stuff it is much much cheaper.
Fusilier:
I've been getting lucky lately, most of the Chinese wool of I've been getting aren't half bad, I compare it with a ATF M36 Greatcoat that I got on Ebay, used but its only a fraction of the prices.
That being saidm I agree with Fusilier, Chinese repros are a hit and miss, I had to replace some hardware on a Chinese DAK y-strap because of its poor quality.
