Jupp, some time this year, I've been away from Airsoft for like two years now(and still I'm a mod) I sold all my stuff exept for 1 CAR 15 and my 2nd bat AEG garand, I kept my WW2 impression, but that was it, the rest of my stuff either got stolen or sold.
And while I've been away you can now get more or less fuctunal GBB rifles.

I'm right in that the M67 was never given out as a complete sett, but to suplimet the M56? So from 1967 outward you might find grunts with mix of M56 and M67?

You are right , M67 gear was never issued as a whole set , bits and pieces where issued as they became available in large enough numbers to issue , some troops got more of one item than other did , like the M67 2 quart canteen covers and M67 Tri-fold entrenching tool and covers , the 30rd magazine pouch seems to have been used in the same numbers as the 20rd ones were . During the '75 fall of Saigon , you see the Marine guards and the re inforcements brought in for the evac , carrying M67 gear , as well as the S.S. Mayaguez boarding party using M67 gear. RECON guys got the majority of the brand new M67 gear at around '68/'69.

As with all things military especially as it relates to wartime never say "never' It was extremely rare that an individual during the war would recieve a full set of the newer nylon gear but it did happen. As mentioned before, in most cases you would see one or two items mixed in with the old M56 canvas stuff. When I was in country at the end of 1969-early 70 there was more and more nylon M67 scattered about and a few guys with full sets finaggeled and piece mealed them together. The M67 was very popular as the canvas web gear was heavy (especially when wet) and took a long time to dry out. The ammo pouches for the M67 were purpose built for the M16 magazines and the plastic latch was a big improvement over the simple tab and loop. The original nylon pouch was too short for the 30 round banana mags our unit was issued so until the longer mag pouches became available empty canteen covers were used to carry magazines. Once out the 30 round pouches were well received and hoarded
By the time I redployed to Thailand in 1974 The M67 was more common place than the M56 although there was still a lot of that around too. Guys swapped around gear quite a bit and especially guys DEROSing back to the states would give out their cool stuff and turn in other guys left behind nasty old stuff. Other guys made a point to keep what they had as a good luck charm

John , Thanks for correcting me on this , i had always read that the M67 gear was not found as complete sets during the war , as always the words of a person who was there counts more to me than info from a book.

Probably a fairly dumb question but this patch that says "LRRP"...Is that a real patch? Like war time patch. I know they use to make all kinds of in country patches and really weird ones at that, but this one is obviously manufactured. I bought it from a guy for a buck and he had no clue what he was talking about. Told me that the 1st Air Cav unit was activated in the civil war and that they made these in country patches in world war 1. If I'm not mistaken it was activated in 1921 Correct?

LRRP as you probably know stood for Long Range Reconnaissance patrol and the term didn't come into being until the Vietnam War as far as I know. The patch shown is more novelty than reality if I had to guess although the LRRP company for the 1st Cav may have had some made up locally in country. Anything is possible although my educated guess would be that it is a contemporary novelty patch.
The first Cav patch recieved a lot of teasing as it was suggested it depicted "The horse they never rode the river they never crossed and all that yellow speaks for itself." A comment sure to start a fight and usually a reply to an inciteful comment about the other units patch. Examples: The 9th was called the psychedilic cookie, the 101st were called chicken heads, the big red one was the "worst of the first"

Sweet, really appreciate the help. Yea, I've herd for the most part that LRRPs didn't even wear unit patches as well as any other special unit and pilots in fear that if captured the NVA would know your name, rank, unit, and branch of service. AS always thanks again for the help 2ndbat.

I meant as in even though this thread is pre world war 2, I thought it would be okay to post this thread here. Yes, Vietnam "officially" started in November of 1955.
